Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 6 Thread -- Shakira and Usher return

I shouldn't be surprised, but it still amazes me how great some people are season after season only to fall so far. I suppose it boils down to song choice and inability to absorb coach feedback. This season, Bria is probably the best example of this. Kay is close to bordering on that too, but her problems I think boil down to song choice.

Delvin owned that stage, so it would be a shame if he goes home. Then again, song choice.

I haven't been a fan of Christina Grimmie's, but that was her best performance to date and interesting.

It's official, Gwen Stefani is replacing Christina Aguilera for the Fall cycle.

Watching Monday's show, I knew that song choice would be fatal to Bria. It's one thing to try different things, but not when it does nothing but expose your limitations.

She's really great at that sort of thing (even going back to her Youtube stuff), which is why I was surprised she did such a straightforward Katy Perry cover last week. I hope Adam keeps her on on this track.

Christina's last two weeks have been great. I wasn't a fan of her Katy Perry cover though. She's still my favorite to win (and has been since she sang Wrecking Ball) but only slightly over Josh.

So the worst of Team Blake is the only one he has left. I don't think Jake is a bad singer, but I'm just not feeling any artistry or performance from him.

Something feels off about Kat lately. She felt a bit edgier and more authentic when when she first appeared, but now they have her in some sort of 'soccer mom rockstar' wardrobe and hair... it's almost like they're digging out all the old Michelle Chamuel looks from two seasons ago.

If itunes downloads are correct in predicting the final 3, it looks like it will be

Spoiler:
Jake, Josh, and Kristen, who are all in the top 10

Kat is a goner and Christina needs help to pass Kristen

Just finished Mondays episode.

I'm pulling for either Josh or Christina. I think Christina has the best chance to be a decent recording artist. She's young and will resonate with the younger viewers who buy the songs on ITunes.

I agree that Kat's lost her edge. Having sing the Frozen song was totally not her genre.

:fc: that Jake doesn't reach the final. Seems like a decent kid, but just doesn't have the persona to be a top selling recording artist.

Adam completely sabotaged Kat (not that I was a huge fan) by making her sing Chandelier. It was a big WTF. The song is a mess even if you hit the high notes, there is nothing to do with it but sound like the original. She did not hit all the high notes and the arrangement was all over the place. They still sort of praised it but the audience had little reaction so you know it wasn't a good performance. Adam knows his shot is the youtube Christina to be in the final 3.

I think Josh is the best of the remaining set, but am afraid Jake or Christina has more fans or votes. Honestly, I don't feel like Jake should have made it anywhere near this far. He's not bad, but needs more vocal training. Speaking of, you could tell some of old contestants from last year had rraining. Regardless, I think it could really come down to song choice come Monday.

Jake in the finals? :wtf:

For the love of all that is good and holy let Josh or Christina win.

Early itunes downloads

Spoiler:
Christina is at #11 , and she really needs to crack the top 10 as Jake is at 18,19, and 20 (I didn't hear if the duos count or not). Josh is WAYYYY back of both of them

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 6 Thread -- Shakira and Usher return

Josh's last song was terrible over-wrought and unpleasant to listen to. He's okay in small doses, I guess. Jake has this weird man-child savantness about him, but then he sings like he's 40 years old. I guess that leaves Christina to land in the winner's circle. Pretty boring finals last night, though.

Adam should never sing anything but Maroon 5 songs because he's not really good on other people's material.

The right person won, but I don't understand how it wouldn't have made a difference if the downloads were counted. He was far behind both of them.

Josh was the most consistent and unique throughout the season, I'm glad he won. I thought Usher kind of sabotaged him with the Adele song because that wasn't one that was in his wheelhouse, but his other performances were pretty great.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 6 Thread -- Shakira and Usher return

Would have been happy if Christina or Josh won. Can't understand Jake taking second, since I think he was pretty average as a singer. Nice tone, but nothing earth shattering in his performances. I don't think Christina was a shrieker. She had a really nice balance of soft and loud, and she could hit those high notes very strong. I enjoyed her performances much more than Jacque's from the xtina season. I hope she finds success. Can't understand the Adam hate from some of the boards. I find him the most generous in his praises for ALL contestants, not just his own. Yea, he went a little douchy this season with the hair color, but after watching Ceelo and Xtina, and even Usher with his raccoon caps, is that even an issue?

DJariya 05-21-14 10:41 AM

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 6 Thread -- Shakira and Usher return

 glad Josh won. But it sucks that Christina came in third. I thought she improved a lot during the course of the season.

I would have been pissed if Jake won.

Btw, how sexy did Shakira look in that tiny little dress singing Medicine with Blake.

With Pharrell and Gwen joining the show, I wonder if we will still see Usher and Shak next Spring

Yeah, he seems like a nice kid and has a decent voice, but he really didn't grow as a performer over the season. He had the same deer-in-headlights look in the finale that he had in his audition.

He also doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb in the bunch... I have a feeling that Blake had to hold his hand and guide him through every decision, where the other frontrunners seemed to have their own opinions and had more input into their performances.

The Voice (NBC) -- Season 7 Thread -- Now with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams

NBC'S HIT MUSICAL COMPETITION SERIES RETURNS WITH GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING ARTISTS GWEN STEFANI AND PHARRELL WILLIAMS, WHO JOIN RETURNING COACHES ADAM LEVINE AND BLAKE SHELTON

In the season premiere, the "blind auditions" are held in front of celebrity musician coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams, who hand pick vocalists for their individual teams. The strongest vocalists from across the country compete to be selected by one of the coaches and fight for a chance to win the title of being named "The Voice." Carson Daly ("Last Call with Carson Daly") hosts. TV-PG

It's back again. There will be 2 cycles again. Cee-Lo Green has left the show for good. Christina Aguilera is on maternity leave.

Don't know how many folks here will be able to keep up with this, but I am excited about Gwen and Pharrell. Looking forward to season 7.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 7 Thread -- Now with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams

Really entertaining 2 hours from last night. Just finished the whole thing.

Loved Gwen and Pharrell. I think I actually like them a little more than Usher and Shakira. Both of them are very likeable. I wouldn't mind if Gwen becomes a permanent fixture and Xtina beats it.

As for the talent last night. Some decent people. James at the end was pretty good. Good cover of that old Tony Rich song. Bryana is cute, but needs some work. I think Elijah Renee is a good fit for

I liked the TSA guy Damien, but he doesn't have a strong upper register.

Of course that bleach blonde who returned from last season picked Blake.

There's 2 more hours tonight. Yeah I know this show is a fucking huge time commitment. I can understand how not many here watched it right away.

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 7 Thread -- Now with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams

This has been on for 3 years? but it still feels fresh and interesting. I really enjoy the chemistry between the judges even though they are the "stars" of the show. They managed to switch out judges each cycle but still maintain continuity. Every time I watch American Idol, it is so tired and lacking in energy compared to this.

Still, no singing stars have come out of this show so it is purely for entertainment/judges' career boost. The singers are an afterthought no matter what they say. I wonder if they will start losing talent to other shows/avenue because of this?

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 7 Thread -- Now with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams

First two episodes have been good. I'm liking the new coaches, although I'm getting some blended Christina/Cee Lo/Usher vibe at times.

The only standout for me so far is night 2 15 year old from Texas. The teams are pretty even so far.

Also :rip: Kia. You have been replaced by Nissan.

DJariya 09-26-14 12:41 PM

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 7 Thread -- Now with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams

Night 2 was pretty good.

Really the banter between the coaches is what makes the show fun.

That Adam Cherry guy butchered Everybody wants to Rule the World. He didn't look too happy about it.

Loved Maiya Sykes. She did a great cover for Stay with Me and stayed in control the entire time. Normally some of these contestants lose it once the coaches turn their chairs. I think she's a solid contender.

DJariya 10-02-14 03:23 AM

Re: The Voice (NBC) -- Season 7 Thread -- Now with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams

Watched Monday and Tuesdays episodes in 1 sitting tonight. (Yes, all 3+ hours with no commercials and I did not fast forward any content)

I'm really enjoyed Gwen and Pharrell as I said last week. They are blending in well with Adam and Blake, who really make the whole show with their bromance.

Anyways, Blake choosing Tanner Linford, who got rejected last season, was BS. I think a Producer made him do it. The kid still wasn't very good and his vocals are still kind of immature IMO. I think the Producers didn't want to break the kid's heart a 2nd time.

I felt bad for the Samoan guy with the 4 kids who didn't get picked. He wasn't too bad and better IMO than a few that got chosen.

The blind guy Blessing Offor wasn't that great IMO. But, he could grow with Pharrell's guidance.

So far, I think Adam has a pretty strong and well rounded team. Pharrell's team is not bad. Blake was loading up once again with those country singers.
