I warned the wife and had her look away as the deed was being done.

Some people just love dogs so much that they don't want to see any dogs getting the axe

I wish they had more content on the wolves. My gf, who knows nothing about the books, has been watching with me and forgot they even existed when the assassin scene came. It's hard to understand the bond the kids have with their wolves when the show barely recognizes they're there.

I'm glad they didn't go into detail with the Hound riding down the butcher's kid. I was curious if they were going to show that happen or not. I think it was a good idea to not show it and just quickly mention that it happened.

Up to this point in the books/episode, the dogs do not play a big part either

Joffrey looks like a gelfling.

In prior threads, there has been discussion of a "fan theory" regarding one of the characters. It felt to me like they were really pushing that theory in this episode. Or maybe it just seemed that way because all the "clues" were compressed within about 15 minutes of show, as opposed to spread across multiple chapters.

Yeah they did. They didn't do much in the books but they were often mentioned being by the side of their kid. No mention of them getting named. I'm interested to see if Bran has the same first words after waking up in the show as he did in the book.

The show did a terrible job of conveying the emotion with Lady being killed and Arya throwing rocks at Nymeria to get her to leave.

The fan theory about

Spoiler:
Ryghaer Targaryen and Lynna Stark being Jon Snow's parents?

Yeah, that is the problem with the translation between book/tv show...how to properly convery that emotion. Not sure how they could have ramped up the Lady emotional piece? I think they had all of the major emotional queues from the book?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of. I have my own theory as well, along the same lines.

I think just having more scenes with the kids and their wolves together would have helped. In one episode they're new born pups, in the 2nd they're full size and defending the lives of their kids. It's a big leap. I seem to remember Sansa taking the Lady scene much harder in the books than in the show too.

They're not even close to full size if you remember the mother from episode 1. And a throwaway line indicated that they were growing much faster than a normal wolf or a dog.

I remember that. I think the time frame between episode 1 and episode 2 was about a month?

Groucho 04-25-11 09:16 AM

Re: Game of Thrones -- "The Kingsroad" -- 4/24/11

Yeah, I think in all about 2 months has passed between the finding of the puppies to the end of episode 2.

From the end of ep 1 to 2 is a month or so. That's about how long Bran was unconscious.

I am still debating internally, but I think I liked this episode more than the pilot.

I don't know. It seems to me that he misinterpreted a lot of things. It's hard to judge whether that's the fault of the show, or if he just wasn't paying attention.

Most everyone I talked to liked this more than the pilot. I think because there was much less exposition going on.

  • Jon's mother's identity is known to to King Robert (no, the episode made it clear that it wasn't)
  • The explicit information as to why some of the family stays behind in Winterfell
  • His interpretation of Jaime as a "behind the scenes" schemer

It wasn't made clear necessarily why Ayra had to go.

@Jon_Favreau: The credit sequence from Game of Thrones is more entertaining than most tv shows.

It is very possible that I missed something, but isn't that a relatively fair interpretation of Jaime so far, particularly in light of his pushing Bran and his comments while doing so? Have they shown or alluded to:

Spoiler:
how much of a badass Jamie really is yet?

This is one of the areas where I just figured that would later in the episodes.

I agree with the first one though; it's like the critic was not watching the scene between Robert and Ned.
