Re: Justified -- "Full Commitment" -- 4/20/11
Kicked all kinds of ass.
I like people getting shot... dammit. Dickie shot the hell out of those bastards.
Raylan should have killed everyone in the room, the husband, the button man, the sleazeball, and just left.
Cool to see Bob Dylan's drummer is still getting good work.
The way they pulled the ending, he may have just terrorized her with the shotgun, when he realized she was about to raise that shotgun. I'm thinking there's a chance she isn't dead, he needed her for hostage bait to get the cash.
I bet we have some more people getting shot next episode too. I'm stoked!

Maybe... but if Dickie meant to kill them and take the money, he would have right?
He just had two guys chicken out and he shot them remember? He can't play it coming straight on, he has to move sideways.
If he had Givens interested in getting his wife back, he might have a play at having him help him get the money back? If she's dead, what's the point of going to his house then? He would have to kill him then when he got home, no way he'd be interested in giving up the money with wifey painted all over the kitchen wall just inside the door..
We'll see, you may be right, but I had the thought Dickie might play it smarter than snuffing her like that. It only takes one round in the space of a kitchen with a 12 gauge if you mean to kill too. Having the right load is second nature to a KY boy. There would be no need for a second round.
Good way to end it either way.

Loved it. Boyd has clearly gone back to the dark side full bore, which is kinda too bad, so I guess next season we'll be back to Raylan going after him? I was hoping for a big Mama v. Raylan showdown finale, but that might not happen. Maybe...

Awesome episode. I'm glad Raylan didn't kill anyone; not only because these killings would have been hard to explain (it's not like someone got the jump on him and he had to defend himself, he was going in search of trouble), but because Duffy is a great villain and it sets it up for him to come back at some point in the future.
Raylan: "We're going to end this right now."
Duffy: "That sounds ominous."
Tim was great in this episode. I love how by-the-books he is compared to Raylan.
I definitely think Aunt Helen is dead. Hard to be sure since we didn't see what happened in the kitchen, but if she managed to get her finger on the trigger before Dickie got off his shot, that could explain the second shot (her pulling it as a reaction when she was shot). Sad to see her go, but I do like when shows are willing to kill off supporting characters, since you never quite know where they're going to go with things.
I like how Boyd didn't rob the guy that was making the buy, but just stepped into Dickie's role and thanked him for his business, lol. Definitely looks like they're taking Boyd back to the dark side, which I'm not thrilled about, but he'll definitely make for a worthy adversary for Raylan. I'm still not exactly sure why he decided to go back to his life of crime, but I imagine it had something to do with corporations like Black Pike earning money legally through arguably deceptive or unethical practices, and him seeing no difference between them and criminals. Interesting that Ava would join him, but it sort of makes sense after she was scorned by Raylan to go in the opposite direction.
I'm actually a little bummed that Winona wasn't killed off; I think of all the characters on the show, she's just dead weight. I much preferred single Raylan or Raylan with Ava.
I imagine both Arlo and Raylan will be out for Dickie's blood after he killed Helen. Will be interesting to see how Mags responds to the death as well.

I thought it was interesting how much focus they gave Boyd's Nazi tattoo. It was in the middle of the frame for almost the entire bedroom scene with he and Ava, and then they came back to it after cutting away to something else. Seems like a not-very-subtle reminder that Boyd is not a "good guy".

^ I was thinking the same thing. I had nearly forgotten that part of him this season (it was a big part of last season though).

They also showed that he has S-K-I-N tattooed on his right hand and I'm assuming H-E-A-D is on the left. I'm not sure if they've showed that before or not.
As for Helen being dead or not...(spoilers taken from the preview at the end of the episode)

Really enjoyed this episode. I love how Tim was a foil for Raylan, but also knew what he was against and was basically just playing CYA.
Kind of disappointed that Boyd has pretty much crossed back over. It made for some interesting confrontations in season 1 and the whole "is he really reformed" aspect, but I enjoyed having Boyd prove his "worthiness" in season 2.
I loved Raylan's line to Doyle when he mentioned only having 2 men: "I thought you'd have more."
Wonder how many Bennetts will be around after season 2 is over.

So Helen was Raylan's Aunt ? Was she also more or less his mother figure? I can't recall much of their history.

Helen was his moms sister, and married Arlo when she died, helped to raise Raylan, in the episode when she gave him the money to leave- she told him he was the only reason she stuck around.
