I really wanted to like it, but eh. Lethal weapon 5 was much better.

I did get a kick out of stanley/morgan freeman though. That's still one of my favorite lines from this or any other show (morgan...freeman always narrating everything!)

I thought it was pretty disappointing, too. I was expecting the movie to be something that seemed more like it could have genuinely been made by Michael in his spare time over the years, rather than what we got, which was (painfully) obviously not. For one thing, I couldn't imagine all of the extra characters so enthusiastically participating when they obviously all think Michael and his creative ambitions are such a big joke. Not to mention, the actual production of the movie seemed way more elaborate than what Michael would be capable of.

I do like seeing many of the old characters come back, but just too much silliness and unbelievability in this one. It's apparent the show's producers are letting Carell run with whatever concept he wants as part of his last hurrah with the show. This one, unfortunately, didn't work.

BJ Novak wrote this episode.......so I am not sure if what you say is as fully true as you seem to think.

But I do agree that Carell is having more input with things he wants to do with his character before he hangs it up for good.

Agreed. Probably unfair to the Office but I kept thinking of LW5 while watching this and thinking that this wasn't nearly as good. This did have some moments here and there and it was good to see some old characters again. I really liked Toby getting blown up and being called an animal rapist and I liked the President turning on Michael and then being good again in the end.

The whole side plot of Holly not liking the movie was a waste of time. And I think they were trying to create a poignant moment with Michael realizing it's a comedy at the end but that fell flat too.

Especially since that is the kind of stupid shit that she normally likes.

I loved it. Some hilarious callbacks and I really believed they were getting a kick out watching the movie.

Interesting episode, I thought Jim was the best part of the movie, but it seemed sort of weird in that..they are using the "current" characters and all of the old characters that were on the forefront are just extras. If Michael really did film this over the years, you'd think he would have given people like Todd and Roy bigger parts. I understand that from a real life standpoint, these people are being brought back to film this stuff, but it seemed sort of silly to have Roy in there with no lines (although apparently he does speak in the longer version).

Re: The Office -- "Threat Level Midnight" -- 2/17/11

The one continuity problem I really noticed was that Darryl said he took all those weekends to work on the film to play a black president in order to impress his daughter, but now that the movie took so long to come out, it was just a big waste of time. Obviously it only became a "waste of time" in November 2008, but they shot some of Darryl's scenes in what I believe was his current office, which wasn't even built at that point in time, I don't think. And if it was, it wasn't Darryl's office at the time. I guess we're left to assume that Darryl hadn't finished all of his scenes before it became a "waste of time," even though that's implied, and that he relented and finished the movie recently. I think they just effed up though.

LOL at the endless nitpicking of all the parts in the movie ring true or dont make sense, like Daryll's office or the size of the roles for past employees.

David Koechner had the best scene of the night, second only to Michael getting yet another crack in at Toby's expense.

It's not like I sat back and discussed it for 5 minutes with Ebert and Roeper. It popped into my head as I was watching and I posted about it. LOL @ me having my own thought process while watching something? I'm fine with that.

Loved that the day-calendar pages in the "days passing by" cliche were from a Dave Barry calendar. Totally a Michael thing to do.

I thought the funniest part was when he talked about filming the hockey scenes, where he apparently wandered out onto the ice during an active high school playoff game, getting a team disqualified and ruining their undefeated season. Well, that and the gratuitously violent Toby death scene.

The "White House" scenes were clearly filmed in the conference room.

Have they actually been filming little segments for this over the years? Jim and Pam looked exactly like they did in season two and three.

The "Oval Office" was the conference room.
