Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Clark (Tom Welling), Oliver (Justin Hartley), Lois (Erica Durance) and Dinah (guest star Alaina Huffman) are released by the VRA after being captured at Hawkman's funeral but each of them have flashbacks of Chloe (Allison Mack) holding them against their will. When Chloe returns, Dinah warns the others that Chloe may now be a traitor. Oliver dismisses her concerns but Clark is unsure if he can trust Chloe after she disappeared without an explanation.

Finally!

Awesome poster, albeit ripping off Phantom Menace a bit.

I was so confused about the 5 year gap between Chloe's disappearance and re-appearance (then again, I can't remember if there was a time-jump of 5 years between last season and this season.

But boy howdy, wasn't it great to see Clark fly Lois around in Matrix-Metropolis?

I'm pretty sure the 5 year thing was meant as in it was 5 years since the picture was taken.

I might as well have skipped this episode. I -rolleyes- at V.R. sci-fi. 2 month wait and this is what they give us. -ohbfrank-

But those photos were taken almost 8-9 years ago.

not the worst Matrix remake I've seen

It's not like Smallville is a stickler for continuity

I took it to mean 5 years since graduation, as she was also holding the reunion of Lois and Clark.

It's been so long since the last new episode that I totally forgot to watch it.

You didn't miss much. Though Chloe returned (and still looks good), the episode was a total letdown. And rather than Clark fly in the Matrix, they should have had him burst out flying in the real world.

overall, it sucked and didn't address the other League members that were also present at the funeral where they were all kidnapped. Were they captured elsewhere or just left on the temple floor? Or what?

Chloe mentioned the others, but not by name. Rather, she mentioned that she had 20 minutes to release Clark, Lois, and the others before blah, blah, blah. I took it to mean that they were also held in the same place, but they didn't have the actors present to represent them.

I caught that but thought she meant Ollie, Lois, and Dinah specifically. I guess that throwaway line works.

I think she said that there were 5 more after she got Olliver and Black Canary out. AC was mentioned by name.

Thanks. I totally missed AC's namedrop or the reference to the other 5.

Yeah, this was a pretty bad episode. The Matrix premise is overused, but they kind of wasted it on gimmicky stunts. They never really put the viewer in Clark's shoes, questioning if the world was real or if he could trust Chloe.

I'm surprised they didn't use the shots of Clark and Loise flying in the promo spot.

DJariya 02-05-11 02:24 AM

Re: Smallville -- "Collateral" -- 2/04/11

 Different strokes. I didn't think it was as bad as some of you. I thought Smallville meets the Matrix was kind of fun. Out of all the episodes in the VRA arc, I actually enjoyed this one of the most.

My problem was the huge time gap between everyone passing out at Hawkman's funeral to when Lois was making phone calls to find out where Clark was. And as RocShemp mentioned, there were more members of the Justice Society at the funeral and what the hell happened to them? Once the episode started, I thought I missed something from the Fall finale.

 And Clark finally flew with Lois.....although it was only virtually. :thmbsdwn:

It was good to see Allison Mack back in the show. With only 10 episodes left, hopefully she will stick around the rest of the season.

 And I fricking love Alaina Huffman. Dinah looked great in the virtual world and I liked her Matrix-style fight scene with Virtual Chloe.

BTW, when Chloe said it's been 5 years, she was definitely talking about since High School since she was staring at the photo of her, Clark and Pete from H.S. and then looking at the 5 year reunion photo with Clark and Lois. I think she's been missing for a few months since the season began and she did miss the reunion.

Well, Allison Mack was shown and listed in the main cast credits this week. I would assume that means she'll be around for a while.

They've made a complete mess of the Suicide Squad. I never read DC comics so all I know is what they've done on this show and it's so confusing that I don't really care anymore. Who are they working with? Checkmate? Slade? Chloe? Are they just available to the highest bidder?

I would check the CW site on Tuesday. They have been posting episodes this season. I just assume that since the show has been off the air for about 2 months, the online rights for the previous posted episodes already expired.

Good point as to why none are available right now. I'll check in a few days.

Windows Media Center guide showed next week's ep as this week then next week's as a repeat of what was.originally scheduled as this weeks. Confusing.

should have had something like him and lois get out then a scene outside of the team getting beaten
then this streak blows through, takes a couple bad guys out, then slowly lands in the middle of everyone, the shock distracts the bad guys enough for the team to recover and take them out

The Suicide Squad is supposed to work for Checkmate (who in turn are a black ops team of the US government). I seem to recall Chloe mentioning that she offered the Suicide Squad a job with her instead of CHeckmate. I have no idea how that could possibly work, though. Maybe they're playing her for some unknown endgame.

Mine too. A Comcast Moto DVR. I think something happened to the iGuide, because I know it was scheduled to record when I checked earlier in the week. But then, nothing. Maybe it's a conspiracy to lower the ratings. :)

Rick Flag is anti-VRA. It looks like he went rogue when he tried to kill General Lane and failed. Chloe blackmails him into working for her or going to jail.

Adding to the throng that had the episode scheduled to be recorded on the Comcast DVR but didn't get it. :( And this after it recorded Vampire Diaries last week. Thanks for the online tips.

My comcast DVR also had it set to record earlier in the week and then didn't but I have so little faith in my comcast HD DVR that I also record certain CW and Fox shows on my SD TIVO. It's funny tho that it recorded Supernatural just fine.

+1 I'm with ya! It certainly wasn't the worst episode, but I definitely enjoyed parts of it. Nice way to ease back in to the back half of the season.

I enjoyed the ep for the most part. It was great to see Chloe again. I hope she sticks around for the rest of the season.

The only thing that really bugged me was the flying tease. IT'S BEEN EIGHT FUCKING YEARS! JUST LET HIM FLY ALREADY! :gah:

Finally got around to watching it. Pretty lame Matrix ripoff but it was still pretty enjoyable once you let that go.

I loved her on Stargate but on here it seems she suffered from the "Smallville effect" of years gone by. The fight scene was good but her acting was atrocious. The show seems to do that to some actors for some reason. It was good seeing her sans mask/costume though.

Patman 02-09-11 09:26 AM

Re: Smallville -- "Collateral" -- 2/04/11

Yeah, I don't know what happend to Huffman in the acting department either, as she's competent in Stargate Universe, but it was almost like she was struggling with reading her lines from cue cards or something.

Superman07 02-09-11 09:37 AM

Re: Smallville -- "Collateral" -- 2/04/11

+2 - glad I wasn't the only one to think Huffman's acting was very off here. Maybe it was the attitude towards Chloe that she couldn't get over, but it was very hard to watch.

 I never said her acting on Smallville was good. But, she is damn nice to look at, especially without the black makeup on her eyes.

But, yeah she is much more competent on SGU.
