well we don't know if its watchable as a stand alone movie so it is a fair question. I for one have loved this show since the inception so it should be mandatory viewing imho. That said we wont know until its out how well it works as a stand alone movie but for sure it will carry more weight if you know the back story from the 3 seasons.

Apparently Milch has Alzheimer's and has been dealing with it as they create this film. That just breaks my heart. If it can happen to a guy with his intellect, it can happen to any of us.

Well I am five episodes in on the first season and I'm enjoying it so far. I don't have much experience with watching HBO shows, but I would say it feels really dense in terms of characters and the story it might take repeat viewings to follow everything.

As you get used to the language it becomes easier to follow. The language structures are one of the main appeals of the show. Maybe best written dialogue in any show ever.

Been re-watching the third season in preparation for Friday. I'm struck by how the show looks like something that was shot this year. It's been thirteen years. You can see a huge difference between a movie made in 1980 and 1993. Have we reached the apex of film production that there's no technical difference between a show made in 2006 and 2019?

I hadn't thought of it until you mentioned it. I've been re-watching it on demand and the picture is quite good considering the age of the show. I dont think I will have finished season three by Friday though so I have a decision to make As I've seen the series numerous times I might just jump to the movie but I'm going to try and plow thru the last season as quick as I can... started too late on this one due to GOT and some work trips that interfered.

I'm rewatching too, on S1E9. I thought episode 1 had a lot of noise. Everything since looks great.
As far as old things looking great, 2001 (1968) STILL looks outstanding! And I've only seen it in HD.

One of the best shows in the history of television. Started a re-watch and didn’t quite time it out right, but I’ll finish the series and watch the film sometime during our DVDTalk June Historical Challenge.

What the fuck? I just went to set the DVR because I'm going out to tonight, but HBO Canada doesn't have DEADWOOD listed at all. It says they're showing GAME OF THRONES and something called NATIVE SON. I scanned ahead through the week and don't see it there either, even though they can't possibly only be airing it once. I'm really annoyed.
EDIT:
Turns out it airs in Canada Sunday, June 2nd.
