Synopsis:

Spoiler:
When the Fringe Team visits Massive Dynamic's assembly of doomsday device, Walter becomes greatly concerned for Peter's well-being, so he turns to Nina for added brain power to understand the relationship between Peter and the superweapon. Meanwhile, the discovery of a dead body triggers an intense investigation.

Episode 11 of 22

Sneak Preview of tonight's episode with a few interviews:

<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NTQ8rKQ79TE" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>

With Smallville and Supernatural not airing tonight & CBS still in repeats, this should hopefully do well tonight.

Re: Fringe -- "Reciprocity" -- 1/28/11

Can someone help me understand why Massive Dynamics (which Walter now owns) is building the "Doomsday Device" ? I mean, if I had the parts of something called a Doomsday Device, I think I'd leave it in parts.

That promo photo looks very nice. Don't forget to look "through the mirror" and notice it isn't a reflection.

maybe to figure out what it really is. maybe it's not what everyone thinks it is. plus they are a technology company. they probably want to learn as much as they can so they can gain the technological knowledge of the device.

Is it to destroy our dimension? I've seen 2 episodes of this series, and that MUST be it!

Why do they always fight the shapeshifters with wimpy guns? They need assault rifles or some .50 calibers.

Actually it's to destroy the cowboy dimension.

Why not?

Aside from increased strength and the whole shapeshifting thing, I don't think the shapeshifters have been shown to have any special powers that would require any additional firepower. They don't have terminator levels of durability or anything. Peter was able to kill several with whatever that "wimpy" gun he was using was.

They seemed pretty wimpy in this episode. In other ones they seemed to be able to take a lot more damage.

Re: Fringe -- "Reciprocity" -- 1/28/11

So nobody has any information gleaned from the show about why in the world we're building a Doomsday Device? I'm almost positive I've forgotten something. Surely it can't be as idiotic as:

"Hey, I wonder what that is?"
"It's a Doomsday Device."
"What does it to?"
"Probably destroy our universe."
"But HOW?"
"Hmm. I don't know. Let's build it and find out."

I'm thinking it's more along the lines of they have one over there, which we believe will be used to destroy OUR universe (not the universe it resides in). Thus, the thinking is if we build one over here, it won't destroy our universe, plus we'll gain a bit more knowledge about what it's capable of in the hopes of defending against what the other side is doing.

Next Question: In a multiverse, why does the only traveling seem to occur between these two universes? It's not like we understand what we're doing and know how to steer.

I enjoyed Dirty Peter though it lost a bit of the luster when they suggested the machine changed him instead of him just being pushed to take action. I was thinking the same thing about them not being human and being out to kill us. Nice that Olivia is getting over it. While "Bolivia" still lives, "Fauxlivia" is an official term within the show now.

You're assuming it's a Doomsday Device.

This reasoning has been stated on the show itself. Remember that the first pieces of the device were encountered in the altiverse.

Next Question: In a multiverse, why does the only traveling seem to occur between these two universes? It's not like we understand what we're doing and know how to steer.
As far as the show is concerned so far, it isn't a multiverse. There's just the 2 universes, so no "steering" required.

I thought it was a multiverse. Walter found the frequency, or whatever, to view a particular one and then ripped a hole to that one thus the traveling is to that "one" exclusively since it's already open. Am I wrong about that?

edit: What I could find online was that there is only two universes in this show just to keep it simple.

The machine actually makes bacon flavoured ice cream. Once again the other universe is better.

The executive producers say "Absolutely" at the prospect of a 3rd universe.

Good news

Fringe held its numbers from last week and won the night among the 18-49 crowd.

Re: Fringe -- "Reciprocity" -- 1/28/11

For me this was a jaw dropping episode.

What is happening to Peter?

What happened between Walter and Nina? She had no memory of Peter already being tested or her dealings with Walter about the Monkey serum.

Peter now knows that Fauxlivia had real feelings for him. When it comes down to it will side with her when that time comes?

Re: Fringe -- "Reciprocity" -- 1/28/11

Crazy episode. The whole thing with the Doomsday device and Peter going rogue killing all the shapeshifters was nuts. I loved the scene where the female shapeshifter broke her face apart and used the homeless guy as the new host.

I liked that they used Fauxlivia in this episode to describe the other Olivia. The U2 line was great.

Looking forward to seeing how the rest of this arc plays out.

Glad the ratings held up. Hopefully they hold up next week when Supernatural and a new CSI NY come back.

Great episode. Peter in the hoodie going all Jack Bauer on the shapeshifters reminded me of... well, Jack Bauer.

My opinion is that originally there was only one universe, and the First People used The Vacuum to create the second universe. It would be interesting to me if "over there" is the original reality, and "our" universe is actually the duplicate.

Re: Fringe -- "Reciprocity" -- 1/28/11

Pretty good episode.

I'm willing to bet that as soon as Olivia trusts Peter again and wants to get close to him she'll find out he was conning her, thus making her look like the fool.

I liked Peter taking them out too, although with the main shap shifter gone now and everybody big back over in the alt-verse there seems to be less a sense of urgency of a "big bad" on our side to stop. I guess the machine counts towards that end.

Since the Observers, are well observers, I wonder if any of the "other" universes were some sort of science experiment. Maybe it was their attempt to cheat death with one of those big 5 events that somebody mentioned.

Re: Fringe -- "Reciprocity" -- 1/28/11

i asked the question a while back regarding multiple universes vs. a single alt universe

and then i brought up the episode with "red phone" Charlie, that was NOT the same altFringe division that we have seen in s3...

Can't wait for somebody at Fox to figure "Fringe would work better if it were more like Sliders"

Re: Fringe -- "Reciprocity" -- 1/28/11

"Bolivia" was always retarded. So happy they made "Fauxlivia" official. Awesome episode. Extremely happy that they had Olivia finally apologize to Peter. The entire time they were talking in regards to Fauxlivia's journal I was all "Bitch! It ain't about you!" and then later they made her vocalize such. It pissed me off that she never realized that Peter was actually the one fucked over in this entire situation, not her.
