Perfect Couples -- Series Premiere -- "Pilot" -- 1/20/11
By null at 2011-01-20
Synopsis:
Spoiler:
13 episode 1st season
This is the official Pilot episode, but since they aired one of the later episodes as a Preview in Decemeber, this is technically episode 2 of 13
I didn't really care for the Preview, but I will give this another shot because of Christine Woods and Kyle Bornheimer who I liked.

Ugh, the chicks are hot but god damn this is awful. Olivia Munn cannot act at all.
The characters are paper thin...it is like all the other shows like this. It is "Better With You" only with less funny* and no studio audience.
*That show sucks too, but the parents are pretty funny. Plus I got a thing for Jennifer Finnigan.

Turned it off halfway through. Found it to be loud and obnoxious and totally unfunny. I can't imagine that this lasts very long. It just seems like it will be full of typical sitcom cliches; which would be fine if they're presented in new and unique ways, but from the little I saw, I doubt that will happen.
I really like Mary Elizabeth Ellis, but she was way too over-the-top, as was her boyfriend. The rest of the cast doesn't seem any better. I've never heard of Olivia Munn before this, but she was pretty blah in the acting department. And her husband sucked too. The only ones that look to be even remotely tolerable are the other couple, but that's probably because the other two are so bad.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I wish they would have put Outsourced on after Community and Perfect Couples at 10:30 to die. I really just can't see this show catching on or lasting all that long. Thankfully Parks And Recreation isn't on after this, would hate to see the effect such a crappy show has on its already struggling ratings.

I had this on the background while I was finishing up some work; couldn't reach for the remote fast enough.
Thoroughly obnoxious.

I can't believe it actually got worse from my first comment. That is what passes as funny these days?
Hopefully this show dies quickly and we can get more Community.

Yeah, it was pretty brutal. I know I've seen some of these actors associated with other bad shows (the guys from "Worst Week Ever" and "One Hundred Stories"). Maybe being in a bad show dooms you to continually be associated with other bad shows.
Anyway, it struck me as trying much too hard to be clever and cute, even overbearingly so. I don't know why NBC always has such a hard time developing good fourth sitcoms for their Thursday night comedy block. Some of them are just godawful.

Christine Woods was the only thing I liked about it, maybe because I already knew her from FlashForward. She was great in that. I hope she winds up in something much better than this, and soon.

The sad part about this show is that every network has a show that is pretty much the same premise.
CBS has Rules Of Engagement, which isn't great, but has its moments.
NBC has this crap, ABC has Better With You, which again has the Finnegan factor, and FOX has the upcoming Traffic Light, which somehow looks WORSE than this show if the previews are any indication.
Side note, how long until we can call Kyle Bornheimer the kiss of death for any show that casts him? I like the guy as well, but if this show gets axed as I assume it will, he'll have 3 straight failures in 3 straight years for 3 different networks.

Unfuckingwatchable. This very well may be the worst show I've even seen air on network tv. I had to stop 12 minutes in, just unreal how bad this was.

What a completely blah comedy. I didn't hate it so much as it elicited barely any reaction from me at all. They were trying so hard, too hard really, with all those gimmicky things like bouncing around time, alternating between the couples dealing with the same situation, and so on... but none of it really translated into a grin, let alone a laugh. The only thing I found amusing was Ellis' character's hatred of game nights, mainly because I have a similar dislike of the concept.

Show was pretty bad. Watching Olivia Munn on a few interviews, they always say " You probably know our next guest as a correspondent from the Daily Show" what? shes only been on that show a few times and is never really good. Also when they ask how she got into the business etc, she never mentions G4 or Attack of the Show. its like shes saying" F*** you, I'm "famous" forget you guys!" to everyone on that show. I never liked her on Attack of the Show either, yeah shes good looking but shes not funny. She comes across as trying too hard to be funny.

Why can't NBC group the three good shows on thursday together? Instead they put the good shows on the top of the hour, and shit like this on the bottom of the hour.

I believe this was a backdoor Pilot.
A show so bad, you would rather take it in the ass than see it made into a series. Yet they did.

Yeah, that was not at all good. The one bright spot was Christine Woods. I liked her, but she needs better material.

I can definitely see the comparison. A hot chick who has always been told how funny she is by guys trying to get into her pants. She takes that to heart and thinks she's some sort of comedian.

I'll chime in as the minority here, but I kind of liked it. Munn is certainly the weak link, but the rest of the actors were pretty good. I'll stick with it through this season.
