I watched it too. That Xmas finale better wrap up a hell of a lot of storylines!

That's what the wife and her sister said, as well. A LOT of dangling plot lines.

It's a great yearly present when you forget about Downton and there's like 5 episodes already out in the U.K. Been watching weekly for the last three or so, but yeah the Christmas one has a lot to cover.

Re: PBS Masterpiece Classic -- Downton Abbey

Wasn't there talk about a DA movie later on? I know lots of things were still open, but if the movie is still in the works, I'm sure a few things won't be resolved.
It was a good episode, but I hope the Christmas Episode will be the great one, as it usually is.

Re: PBS Masterpiece Classic -- Downton Abbey

Yeah, nearly every main character except Mary got left hanging.
Spoiler:
And that decision I don't even understand. If there's a single character that doesn't deserve a happy ending it's her. I seriously expected Edith to stab her at one point. She's literally a terrible person. And honestly, we all know the series will end with Downton actually shutting down.
They have ALOT to pack in during the Xmas special.

Oh, and.....BANANAS

Thanks for that. I've been able to see all of Season 6 including the Christmas special/ending. Much better than the Season 5 disaster. So if you are on the fence at least give it a chance. Oh yeah, the finale did bring pretty much everything together.
Spoiler:
As you might expect everyone lives happily ever after with one exception at least for me. Even Thomas comes out sort of happy.

Finale aired tonight.

I enjoyed it and the sixth season overall was well done. Figured everyone would have a happy ending, but some of it was eye-rolling, like Dickie's anemia turning out to not be the fatal kind.

What about everyone hooking up this last episode? Either getting married, or getting engaged or dating? Hell, I expected to see that new puppy humping another dog in the very last shot. But that said, and all joking aside, it was a very nice send off over all. It's a very classy show that I will miss. It's such a shame that Julian Fellowes decided to call it a day so soon. They really could have gone on at least another two or three seasons. I felt the same when Alan Ball pulled the plug on "Six Feet Under". Now that really pissed me off.

If we got a Spratt and Danka spinoff, with the occasional Maggie Smith guest spot, I would be happy.

No, it was time to pull the plug.

Though unlike Six Feet Under, I'm surprised they didn't do a flash-forward to the '80s or '90s when the younger characters would be old like Lady Grantham.

Re: PBS Masterpiece Classic -- Downton Abbey

I watched this when it aired in the UK. I was worried they were going to deal us another painful blow, as the series has done many times. I'm glad they didn't.

An overall happy ending. I'll miss these characters.

Re: PBS Masterpiece Classic -- Downton Abbey

It was a stellar series and at some point I will definitely give it a rewatch. The ending was overly sweet but that's really a very minor gripe at this point.

If they do make a movie I'll be watching.

Sort of disappointed that EVERYONE had a happy ending. Mary should have lived in Downton misery watching Edith's happiness.

Mr. Carson didn't have one, since he would have wanted to continue to be the Butler. Though he is in a happy marriage.

I think Mary got enough misery and she changed a lot. Thomas on the other hand... If some viewers just had to have their bit of misery I would rather it was his than Carson's. Oh well...very satisfactory overall.

Overall good but the finale was still kinda meh for me. They screwed Carson and Mary got a happy ending she didn't deserve. Even Thomas' ending was tolerable, but kinda not deserved.

Cool!

Although, I was happy with the ending on the show. It was surprisingly happy, given how bleak some of the episodes were.

I too think there is no reason for a movie. Hell, there was hardly a reason for season six in its entirety. But the final Christmas special wrapped things up nicely for nearly the entire main cast, so there really isn't any more story to tell.

Sort of like a Friends movie. No real purpose.
