Re: Does the Wire take a while to get going?

I made it through the end of season three a couple years back and thought it was just okay myself. I appreciate that it was well written and probably pretty realistic but the show just never really hooked me. I own the complete series so I'll probably go back to it someday but it's not on the top of my watch list.

Also, I still don't get the complaint about Breaking Bad's "Fly" episode.

Re: Does the Wire take a while to get going?

Finished watching Season 5 last Monday.

Season 5 wasn't on par with the rest of the seasons but still was good enough. Didn't care about the newspaper, almost FFWD those scenes.

But I do loved the series finale. Perfect ending for this kind of series.

Also, after watching the entire series, the show is growing on me. So, for example, I was watching Mad Men latest episode and thought how smart and intelligent it was, and then thought but The Wire was smarter and more intelligent, and in more episodes.

Re: Does the Wire take a while to get going?

Just finished the series for the third time. Man nothing has come close to uprooting this as the best written/acted show to grace the airwaves. Would love to see a 10 year recap show/series of what has changed over the years, maybe even a new season!!!

This link contains many spoilers from all seasons! BEWARE!

Just read this in the latest Maxim magazine, and it's a great read.

Nope nothing really has.
As great as some shows are they just never quite reach The Wire.

I didn't care for season 5 as much either, but I did love the newspaper stuff. It was the fake serial killer stuff that just seemed a bit too out there for me. But then, I'm a journalist. It was interesting seeing a fairly real look at a newsroom for once.

The newspaper stuff wasn't interesting at first, but Clark Johnson was so good that it drew me in. Great performance, I'm glad he stepped back in front of the camera to give it.

Great read. Most interesting thing I learned is that Anthony Bourdain is a writer for Treme. Never knew that.

Amazing how many people are watching this for the first time...I thought I was the only one.

Getting to the end of season 1 and loving it. Reading this whole thread is getting me excited for what's in store...

HBO Go is a beautiful thing.

Anybody who hasn't watched all five seasons should stay away from watching the musical version.

Just saw the Blind Boys of Alabama open for Tom Petty. Big response when they did Way Down In The Hole.

Once I finish my 2012 Star Trek fest, The Wire and The West Wing are on tap for 2013. Reading this thread makes me want to start The Wire now.
