Why did 'our' Broyles answer the phone 'Colonel Broyles?'
Was he ever given a rank in our universe before? Does the FBI have ranks like that, besides agent and special agent?

It was previously established he was a Colonel in the military. If I remember right a Senator in S2 was being arrogant towards him and he played the "Colonel" card, citing he was a war veteran.
