Not a spectacular episode for sure, but I enjoyed the chicken wire popping its staples, rolling back in the box, and the staples re-inserting themselves in the box.

loled when Bart was choking the ostrich Homer-style and Homer's expression when he was doing it.

I liked it. I thought it was an interesting twist on the typical "pet" episode.

My wife was pretty mad about all the animal violence. But not as upset as she was by Jurassic Bark (
).
For those that don't know, the Itchy and Scratchy cartoon was a parody of this:

Last time I told her that, it was regarding Cannibal Holocaust. Then she looked it up.

When they brought Santa's Little Helper to the ranch, I was sure Bart was going to have a flashback to when he accidentally shot the mama bird and raised the two eggs in "Bart the Mother" a few years back and realize his hypocrisy in the situation. Guess I was hoping for a little too much series continuity.

This episode really cracked me up, particularly because I have a whippet (who looks very similar to Santa's Little Helper) that found a live baby bird one time. I chased him around the yard and as soon as I cornered him, he swallowed it whole. It was very surreal watching it on the Simpsons.
