The promos for tonight make this look like Glee's "very special episode."

Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10

|
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
Puck calling Artie Professor X and Sue referring to Bieste as She-Hulk had me
That and Brittany saying she once threw the baby out with the bathwater.

Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
 Kurt and that guy running hand in hand through the hallway in slow motion was ridiculous.
But man, that cover of Teenage Dream was amazing. This is when Glee is at its finest: when they put a completely original spin on a song. Very well done. That guy has such a great voice. |
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
The jock beats up the gay kid because he's actually gay too! Yeah, that's real original Glee. *yawn*
|
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
Hell Id take the whole boys choir gang banging each other over that Beiste-Will kiss again... Enjoyed all the songs this episode though.

Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
Heat's wife probably would have a heart attack if she saw this episode, lol.

What's the alternative? The guy learns a very special lesson? That's the shit that's not realistic. Great episode, as always. Loved the songs, loved the message, everyone had great moments. |
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
A meh episode for me. The a capella song was good, the girls mashup was OK, Puck and Artie's number was forgettable and the boys mashup was just bad.
All three story lines had varying degrees of after school special to them. Kurt's was obviously the worst offender and with the bonus cliche of the closeted gay basher. And Beast's story literally had Will acting as the thought police. Puck and Artie didn't get their after school on until the final scene with Artie offering to tutor him and stuff seemed to come out of nowhere. Puck's "nobody cares about me" spaz seemed just as random. |
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
I LOVED Puck taking Artie in to get the Cheerleaders. He totally played Jedi Mind tricks on them by being an ASSHOLE.
What was Santana's line about putting out for the football team? |

Sure. Cause that's never happened in real life.
What's the alternative? The guy learns a very special lesson? That's the shit that's not realistic. Why not just have the jock be straight and be intolerant? Then have Kurt stand up for himself and fight back. Even if the jock doesn't learn a lesson of tolerance, he might at least begrudgingly respect Kurt for sticking up for himself. As a bully he might be less likely to pick on someone that isn't easy prey. Or, here's an idea...just do something different for a change. Why not have Kurt see everyone else in a relationship or going on dates (Rachel/Finn, Quinn/Sam, Brittany/Artie, Santana/Puck, Tina/Mike) and him long to meet someone? Then have him go spy on the guy's school and go from there; would that have been so hard? But that's all beside the point. Haven't we already addressed people picking on Kurt for being gay in several episodes? Haven't we even seen him stick up for himself and even Finn stick up for him to the football players? This just felt like a cheap way to impress some of the show's constituents given the recent public cases of gays being bullied and committing suicide, especially the way they promoted the episode. |
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
Wow, once again Glee is jumping the shark.
I am NOT looking forward to Spoiler:
But I AM looking forward to Spoiler:

Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
My biggest problem ... Kurt's big confrontation with the jock when he mocks the jock's fears ... only didn't Kurt actually do that last season with Finn?

Seriously, if you have problems with this sort of stuff (and I'm really NOT seeing any point in your arguments), you should just stop watching TV completely, dude, because nothing is going to satisfy you. Besides, it's f-ing Glee. Like any of the production numbers in this episode alone were "believable" with the fantastic orchestration, musicians, lighting and choreography all for the sake of a single in-class "project" assignment. |
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
Kind of sub-average and stilted, even for Glee, but the songs were all good, especially Teenage Dream.
And I'll NEVER complain when the girls are in black leather... Did it seem like the writers "re-invented" Puck as an exaggerated bad ass? I know he came into the show as the tough guy/outsider, but the character never seemed as one-note cliche as it did last night. |

I agree...Puck came across as really arrogant in this episode, more so than in any other episode so far. I laughed at the Artie/Puck song in the courtyard. Supposed to be just them, then all of a sudden, there are guys playing STEEL DRUMS! How many high school kids have those in their lockers? Then a pan of the courtyard and you see a full drum set being played along with another electric guitarist and bass player! C'mon....seriously? The song sung in the boys school was well done, especially the sound mix. --John |

Haha Episode needed more Brittney. |
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
Speaking of Kurt's story having a retread feel, did anyone else get a deja vu, WTF moment, when Quinn was back in Sue's office scheming to keep her man/destroy sue's enemy?
I also thought it was funny that Will was hypersenstive about what the Glee kids thought about Beast, while he was only mildly concerned that Kurt wasn't brushing off the routine physical assaults like he normally does. |

I also want to reiterate that I'm glad the jock didn't let up on Kirk, despite what happened. That's a far more likely outcome in the "real world". And I just thought the steel drums were hilarious  Again, as crazy as having Artie on the football team. That's how things go in Glee's world. |

Um, crap like this doesn't get resolved in a few episodes. High school kids are assholes. Kurt getting picked on for his entire high school experience would be realistic.

I also had a huge laugh about the fact that two random guys were carrying around steel drums for some reason.

Or how about the half dozen Marshall full stacks the girls used for their mashup. I guess the glee house band also play stadium gigs on the side.

Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
Yeah anytime Santana, Brittany, and Quinn are in tight, black leather the show can't be bad :)
|
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
The performance by the girls was one of the worst they've ever had on the show. The mash-up was just terribly arranged.

Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
My biggest gripe about the show was how Schue expected Kurt to shrug off the bullying. That's wrong. As an authority figure, he should do more to protect students from abusive behavior. That scene highlighted how bad Schue is at being a teacher. For him being an overall good guy, he can also be a condescending jerk who doesn't get the point.
I didn't like how the Bieste-Schuester storyline played either, though Dot Jones was great. I understand Bieste's POV--she would need a specific guy to handle being with her, because she is a specific type. But that doesn't mean that she should be pigeonholed into what people expect her to be. And of course she has the same wants and needs as anyone--she's human, not some freak. I liked her side of the story. But having Schester being her knight in shining armor--please. It's not realistic. As for the Kurt and the closeted jock--was it cliched? To a point. But I expected that. After all, gay bullying as been a hot button issue for a while now. Plus, Ryan Murphy tends to recycle ideas. So how this story has currently unfolded isn't a surprise. If an angle works, movies and TV shows tend to go to it often. But where the typical story leads us is the real question. There's potential for some non-cliche duality with Kurt, if they choose to go that way. Will Kurt choose to stay at a school where he has no support and has to deal with a repressed bully? Or will he go to an expensive school that his dad probably can't afford, but would be better for his overall being? Does Kurt pursue a romance with Blaine, or do they just stay friends? Does Kurt continue to be bullied by the football player, or does something happen where the jock tries to pursue Kurt further? He did go in for a second kiss. Where does that lead to? On a larger scale, the show was about identity--repressing it (football player), finding ways to deal with it (Kurt), accepting it but regretting decisions made to get there (Blaine), knowing who you are but wishing others did (Coach Bieste). If Glee continues to follow this story--a big IF, I realize--then what seem cliche now becomes something profund in the end. I hope this episode can be the foundation to build to something stronger. And maybe we'll learn a few things while listening to great versions of "Teenage Dream." |

Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
I'm pretty sure Kurt could afford to go to that prep school if he wasn't wearing a brand new designer outfit every day -- which is pretty easy considering they have uniforms there.
|
Re: Glee -- "Never Been Kissed" -- 11/09/10
My problem with the closeted gay dude, is that Glee could have gone in a totally new direction. Someone who is an asshole, just because they are an asshole. Not because mommy didn't hold them, not because they are dealing with homosexual feelings, but because they are inherently a prick.
Just like real teenagers can be. Sometimes people are just assholes for no reason and i wouldn't mind some realism mixed in with my magical piano playing man who is always there to play accompaniment. |

Part of the "entertainment" (for me, anyways) is laughing at the more ridiculous elements.

Who knew that prep schools were inclusive utopias that had no bullying, ever?
