This was a great episode. They went somewhere with it that I wasn't expecting. For a second there, I actually believed Michael was going to leave and really couldn't believe it.
I loved how sweet Angela was to the baby. Jim accusing her of kidnapping the kid was hilarious, and without being able to think of a reason, he just admitted it. Great stuff.
This season is immensely stronger than the previous few. It's a lot more subtle and understated and Michael has sort of toned down his antics. Sure, getting on the bus was impulsive, but it wasn't completely outside the realm of possibility like some of his other past behavior.
Best exchange of the night though, by far, was in the last minute...
Erin: "Get in quick!"
Michael: "Why quick?"
Erin: "Because it's faster!"
And a close second...
Toby: (speaking to God) "Stop being mean to me..."

Not bad. Just mediocre. Andy was hilarious on the bus and I loved Toby's line inside the church. Everything else was kind of blah.

I'm with you. I LOVE The Office, and have thought it's been really good this season. And while the cold open to this episode was classic, the episode itself was horrible.
They completely lost me when Michael got on the bus. I was having flashbacks to him driving into the lake. I just thought it went way too overboard.
Did like Erin at the end though:
"Get in quick!"
"Why quick?"
"Because it's faster!"

Ha! I missed that Erin line. I did, however, LOVE, the Toby line.

Hey, don't go dissin' Three's Company, now. That's some hi-larious TV. If only half the shows today were that funny.

It was episodes like this, when Stupid Michael shows up, that made me drop the show in the middle of last season. I've been watching again since the beginning of this season though, and it's been a return to form so far 'til this episode. Just bad all around.

See, I actually didn't find Michael's behavior all that stupid. Everyone was being really nice to them, he was having fun, he got caught up in the moment. He was realizing he needed more out of life, that he needed a change, and so he acted impulsively. It wasn't the dumbest thing he's ever done, and given what we've seen so far with him this season I think it actually made sense in the context of his character.

But jumping on the bus and leaving everything behind for a three month stint without so much as a change of underwear just seemed over the top. I actually bought Andy's motivation more--trying to impress Erin.

I'm glad I wasn't that guy when I came in to say that I thought the episode was pretty lousy. At least, not the only that guy.
It just seemed disjointed, as if they had three embryonic scripts and just mashed them together.
Ah well, it's been a decent season. I can overlook the odd misfire.

It's funny that this is the only show where a mediocre episode gets called horrible. Really harsh criticism from someone pretty much every week, while most truly horrible episodes of other shows usually get a 'meh, could have been better'.
Some of you really don't like the show do you? That's fine I guess but we're in season 7 and you've been bitching since season 3.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Gervais and Merchant were going to either guest star or write/direct an episode or two this season. Am I imagining that or is it still happening?
As for this episode, I thought it was the worst so far this season. I watched Community after The Office, so at least I ended the night laughing.
