Re: Sons of Anarchy -- "Turas" -- 11/02/10

I think the problem here is more that they had a story for a 6 or 7 episode season here and stretched it out.

What this is starting to feel like is a network show where they really only have a 13 episode season but stretch it to 22.

I think next season is likely to be better because Sutter is said to have a rough road map of what will happen in each of the seasons. This one was just short.

Re: Sons of Anarchy -- "Turas" -- 11/02/10

incest is nothing
they already have a necrophiliac in the club

Gemma is an idiot
she's so worked up about Jax's dad having cheated on her but is fine with Jax cheating on his girl with a skanky porn star, did everything she could to drive away the mother of Jax's child (way to think about the kid who now gets to grow up motherless), almost had sex with Tig

and once again the hollywood idiots have a glock making a cocking noise when someone picks it up
dipshits, talk to a firearms expert for once. Glocks don't have hammers, so there is nothing to make a cocking noise

The best part of the episode was seeing Tara's boss with back ink. Other than that, I think I might be getting stupid, because I'm not understanding what's going on in Ireland.

That was a good twist.

Don't worry - you're not the only one re: Ireland. I just know Jimmy wants them dead for whatever reason and has a couple of the Irish-chapter sons in his pocket.

The Charming stuff is still really good. It is just the Ireland stuff dragging down the show. Hopefully next season they never mention Ireland again.

Yeah, that scene with Jax coming out of his stupor after the explosion, mistaking Clay for his dad may have been a clue that Clay is actually his biological father.

The scene where Jimmy and his henchman get overtaken by 3 old ladies and a couple of cubs is laughable. They should seriously lose their underground criminal cards.

The incestuous shit is creepy.

They better not pull the "who you think is your father isn't really your father" card with Jax. I'll really lose all respect for the show if that happens.

I'm waiting for the scene where Jax is balls deep in Trinity with Gemma watching from the doorway with a torn look on her face.

Oh Jimmy just burst in and capped some dude in the head. Oh no, but we turned the tables and got his guns. I have an idea, lets let him go, that way he won't be angry and kill us. Cause if we killed him, he would have been mad and killed all of our families. From beyond the grave apparently.
The show clearly said Jimmy's crew would wipe out Gemma's whole family in retaliation. His crew, not dead Jimmy himself.

It's a bit hard to buy that given the job they have done so far.

I get that vibe too but hopefully Kurt Sutter isn't that much of a sick bastard. I know two people who have said flat out "I will never watch SOA again" if that ends up happening.

The incestuous shit is creepy.

But if it turns out that Clay is really Jax's father then Jax can bang Trinity.

I caught that, but just like the mob, things change when the boss gets whacked. The next guy up doesn't always go back for blood.

Re: Sons of Anarchy -- "Turas" -- 11/02/10

wow...I don't know what happened to this show! The first season was awesome, gun running, biker gang stuff...second season with the nazis was good too....this season has turned into a soap opera. The acting isn't as good, the storylines are boring and drawn out, the set up seems contrived and some of the scenes are just freaking cheesey as hell.

The vision Jax had after the explosion was straight out of daytime tv, I literally laughed...the hospital admin lady conveniently becoming tara's best friend this season (??!!)...the will they/won't they story with Jax and his sister...the fbi agent who (oh my gosh, let's be daring and make her gay!) is setting up her gay lover...the back tat, oh my god the back tat, that was so freaking retarded...what the hell happened to the writing on this show? Geez...the whole stupid ireland/baby storyline is a huge snoozefest.

The acting seems worse this season too. The guy that plays Jax needs to work on his Amercian accent, the girl that plays Tara is terrible and the FBI agent that won't go away has always been almost comical her acting is so bad.

she is married to the president of FX, so chances are she isn't going anywhere, unfortunately.

That's just an excuse. They just wanna bail because the show sucks now.

Kurt Sutter from everything I can tell is precisely that much of a sick bastard. I think the only thing we can count on is that FX probably wouldn't stand for that. Then again, I think it would be the first depiction of that sort of incest on one of these shows. They could see it as breaking some ground...

ETA: Actually
Spoiler:
Nip/Tuck
went there now that I think of it. It probably would not therefore be ground breaking.

Re: Sons of Anarchy -- "Turas" -- 11/02/10

http://sutterink.blogspot.com/

interesting stuff from Sutter's blog

some highlights

Over the past few months I’ve been experiencing a growing sense of disconnect from my creative passion. More and more the thing that I love to do is becoming just “a job”. Without knowing it, I’m turning into one of those writers who I swore I’d never be -- I have it all and I hate it all. I’m a fairly self-aware cat, so when I get to these places, I am forced to ask myself, “How the fuck did I get here?” In my inventory process I was surprised by how little I had to dig to reveal the truth. It’s quite obvious what turns passion into dissatisfaction - money.
...

I guess that inevitability is catching up to me on Sons. I was under the false impression that the more successful the show became, the more room I would get to do it. But the opposite has occurred, the better the show becomes, the more corporate scrutiny I experience. This reality is chipping away at my spirit. At the end of my 80 and 90 hour weeks I start to ask myself, “Why am I doing this?” Lately, my answers aren’t that convincing. And when “money” is my only response, it’s time to walk away. The solution? I’m not sure. I’m not a quitter and my ego is too big to entrust the show to anyone else. I’ve contemplated setting myself on fire at Pico and Motor, but that seemed a bit extreme, even for me. So I guess I press on and continue to make the emotional and creative adjustments. In recovery, we talk about how expectations are future resentments. That’s very true in this case. I guess I need to stop going to the butcher shop for candy. I show up wanting something sweet and tasty and always end up with a slab of bloody entrails. I love what I do and need to find a way to bring back that love. My life is always about finding the balance between love and fear. Perhaps that’s the bigger lesson here -- learning to stay focused on the love while I'm being bombarded with everyone else's fear. Easier wished than employed. Guess I have some tuning up to do this hiatus. I know I didn't work this hard to be miserable.

I hope Sutter finds a way to make it work for him because this show I really want to like is suffering but more because he seems like a decent enough guy. I applaud his honesty.

My advice to him would be to bring it back to basics in season 4. Don't leave Charming. Redeem the characters that can be redeemed, and kill the rest.
