Olyphant has been a favorite of mine since a character of his announced that he gave head before he gave favors.

I liked how entering his Weight Watchers points was Darryl's "time sensitive" work

Isn't this the beginning of them auditioning replacements for Michael Scott? Is Olyphant up for the part?

I don't see how Olyphant could replace Carrell. He has a show, and it's inconceivable to me that he would have time for both or that FX would have failed to lock him up past 2 years (I think 5 year deals are standard, right?).

With that said, Olyphant was so good it would otherwise be a viable option.

My thinking is this:

Olyphant's character is the new traveling salesman, which means Michael Scott will have to fire Packer. However, Olyphant is just a guest star, so he won't be the traveling salesman forever, which means there will be an opening for that position later. Micheal Scott obviously loves doing sales more than managing (hiring Olyphant was more a sales pitch to him than a managerial decision). By the end of the season Micheal Scott will get back together with Holly and take the traveling salesman position, leaving the opening for Steve Carell to do occasional guest spots each season.

Yes 5-7 year contracts are standard. There is no way he is a viable replacement option with him working on Justified.

I really enjoyed the heck out of this episode. My favorite next to the season premiere. Can't wait to see what they do with Olyphant next ep.

I can't stand Packer, but I guess that's the point.

And I would add it also fit that the group had no good counter to Michael's point. People have to deal with threats to their livelihood all the time in the name of what's good for the company.

Packer replacing Michael would probably be the only thing that could make me stop watching this show...

I think this one strayed a little too far outside of the real world. Good otherwise.

Damn that "Special" Ed Helms is a fucking cancer. Am I the only one sick of this dude? Hes becoming way too much of a focal point on this show. Does he have to sing in every fucking ep?

Didn't really think this episode was very funny, but like the addition of Timothy Olyphant.

Agreed.

Add me to those that liked Olyphant, but this is a comedy show and this was probably the most serious episode we have seen. I can only see a comedian taking Carell's place.

does he though? Who's telling the truth? Olyphant or Pam? If Pam is lying, then that could be setting up some Olyphant/Pam tension... and i'm not sure i would like that.

I thought this episode was crazy funny in the way the show was in the earlier days (because like most sitcoms, it has strayed farther from reality and believable characters as it progresses).

I think Olyphant was just saying that to be nice to Jim and cut whatever tension he thought there might be.

Re: The Office -- "The Sting" -- 10/21/10

I must be the only person in this thread who didn't like this episode. I chuckled once or twice, although honestly I can't remember what at. I think it was during the Olyphant/Meredith interview. I also must be the only person to not be impressed with/didn't care about Timothy Olyphant being in this episode (I'm sure it doesn't help that I only know him as "the villain from Die Hard 4"). This season, along with the current season of The Simpsons, hasn't been shaping up very well for me.
