Would that be "I've got to go learn people's names before I fire them"?
What was the point of that side-plot? For being hooked on heroin, she sure didn't look that messed up. For being the 2nd to last show of the season, I thought it was really wasted time. I wasn't happy "creepy" Glen got so much screen time either.
That was pretty nuts of Don to issue that article in the partners' names without consulting with them first.

Betty wanting to continue to see the child psychologist was pretty funny and perfect for her
Loved how Lane was worrying about everyone stealing office supplies

I guess the epiphany would have been clearer if Don had talked it over with Wilson.

Why was the new beancounter giving marching orders to the partners? I thought Lane was the "money man" for the firm, and he's also a partner. Pretty shocking that Bert left the firm so suddenly.
Would it kill Betty to do something nice for Sally? She wanted to eat dinner with her parents and Betty's response is an icy "We'll see." Just say yes, for fuck's sake. Damn. I will give Betty credit for wanting to move far away from that psycho-in-the-making Glen, though.
Solid episode, but it seemed like a placeholder for the finale.

A managing partner like Lane Pryce will oversee the business side of the business and make decisions, but will ultimately rely on an accountant to keep the books and do the math.

Sure, Lane will rely on someone else to keep the books, but giving a strategic talk to the other partners/key employees? I don't buy it. He'd get whatever information he needed from Accounting and speak to the group himself.

I'm confused about who you are referring to. The older man who was talking to the partners about going after the new cigarette account (I'm guessing that would be Virginia Slims) was Atherton, the old friend of Cooper's who was now in consumer research.
I guess they would let him give them strong advice because he has a lot of experience in the advertising business and is still deeply connected to it, but doesn't have any allegiance to any firm (beyond personal relationships).

^Gotcha. I don't remember seeing the guy before last week. I thought he was just the head of accounting or something.

He was in "Christmas Comes But Once A Year" and brought Dr. Faye Miller to SCDP. (played by John Aylward) But considering how important he was in this episode, the character probably should have had more presence in the rest of the season.
The accountant from last week was played by Randy Thompson.

I'm still not sure how I feel about Don paying Pete's share. I get why he did it, but it seems a little out of characterfor him.

Also, it gives Pete incentive to keep his secret. And Don making Pete give up the government account is partly to blame for them even being in this mess, as they lost a client that could've helped keep them afloat in the aftermath of lucky strike.

No idea what you're on about there. It seems perfectly in-character for Don to help someone out financially when they can't handle the burden. It's not like he hasn't done the exact same thing before.

Another great episode IMO. Best season for the series thus far.
Also...fuck Betty. I really liked the stuff with Glen and Sally. I was expecting it to take a bad turn, but while Glen was still being a weird dude I liked that they were just hanging out and talking. Which of course made the Betty reaction thing all the worse. (Although I loved Glen being winded after running like 50 feet. )

Also Pete's clients are now the vast majority of the accounts that are keeping the doors open. Don and Pete are the two people keeping SCDP in business, and it can't continue without both of them --and I think they both realize that.

Yeah, great season, I'm not sure if it's the best, the first one is a classic, but really good indeed.
About Don's letter, we have to remember it was the 60's, right now if an ad agency writes that letter people would think good of them. In the 60's that's crazy. It's like Don is going all hippie, all 60's, now. And I loved that it was also influenced by Peggy, and her response after Don asked what she thought about the letter.

Can someone refresh me on why Don laughed at Peggy's "bacdor shenanigans" remark? I think it had something to do with her calling her out on something but I can't remember.

I think it was in reference to Peggy's publicity stunt pulled earlier in the season, where she arranged for two women to fight over a ham.

I loved how Cooper ordered Harry Crane out of the room after he followed the partners into their meeting.
