I just got done watching this episode again and I thought it was pretty great. Definitely THE best "SNL" in years IMO. Jane Lynch was so good, I smell an Emmy.

I thought the episode was pretty good. I know Bruno Mars from the hooks of "Beautiful Girls" and "I want to be a Billionaire" which is played all the time on San Jose radio stations.

How many talk show and game show sketches does SNL do now each week?
This stuff feels really tired.

But did she do anything last night that wasn't literally an exact copy of previous sketches/characters?
They don't bother coming up with anything new for her, and it is far too easy to waltz out another retread sketch written in about three minutes that offers nothing a rerun doesn't.

All of the Samurai skits are exactly the same except Samurai Night Fever.
All of the Coneheads skits are exacltly the same except when they went on Family Fued.
All of the Cheese Burger! Cheese Burger! skits are exactly the same no exception.
Church Lady, Hanz & Franz, The Cheerleaders, The Gap Girls, are reoccuring skits even more annoying than Gilly.

There are only a few SNL characters whose skits are almost always different from the one before, as opposed to the characters just being plugged into the same situations over and over again.
Wayne's World comes to mind.
Sprockets.....(Let's face it. Mike Myers is a friggin' genius)

Wayne's World and Sprockets weren't really any more different than Church Lady, I'm Chillin', The Dark Side with Nat X, The Continental, Toonces, The Cheerleaders, The Delicious Dish, Astronaut Jones, Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood, Caitlin, etc.

The cast members who played the characters mentioned in the last few posts regularly did different things as well. Also, most of those characters at least were brought back because they were funny in the first place. And Wiig, though I'm not exactly saying she's terrible, cannot hold a candle to most of those cast members regardless (Murphy, Carvey, Meyers, Belushi, Aykroyd, Radner, Murray, etc.), so apples and oranges really.
I mean, you cannot seriously compare the Coneheads to Gilly, or Belushi's Samurai to Penelope, etc. I would watch dozens of Continental sketches(Christopher Walken for crying out loud) before any one Target Lady sketch.

Since no one's mentioned it, kudos to Armisen's Gene Simmons impression "keepin' it moist" during the Mom's boyfriends sketch.
