RIP: Greg Giraldo (1965-2010)

Very out of nowhere news. I never thought Giraldo was a great comedian, but on the other hand, he wasn't horrible. He was comfortably middle of the road, but generally entertaining.

I was also shocked to learn he was a lawyer who graduated from Harvard Law prior to becoming a comic.

Bummer. He was always great doing celebrity roasts

Crazy news. I only knew him from the roasts but he was always pretty funny. RIP.

He was always my favorite performer on the roasts. Sad news indeed.

Very unfortunate and sad. Very funny fellow -- I thought he actually did a good job judging the last season of Last Comic Standing.

I'd like to know more about this accidental overdose.... 45 is way too young to go.

RIP

I hope his funeral is done roast-style.

I know the name and the face, but I don't think I've heard much of his material. It's always sad when a comedian dies so young.

RIP. I'd heard about the OD, but had no idea he was in such bad shape.

My first thought when I saw the thread title was "what did he OD on?"

Sure enough, there's an "accidental overdose." I mean at his age, what else would it have been? Suicide maybe, but even then it probably would have been pills.

I can't believe Greg Giraldo is gone before Artie Lange.

RIP

OMG. I've been listening to his two albums for the last few days. I really liked him. This is a shock. How sad.

It's already been removed from Gilbert's Twitter, but here is what he said a few hours ago...

TMZ got a comment out of Gottfried;

We spoke to Gilbert about the tweet ... who told us he has problems expressing his emotions -- but noted, "Greg can't say anything about it now ... I'm not worried about him calling and complaining."
He should have left it, I think Giraldo would have gotten a laugh out of it.

Fucking sucks, I first knew him from Tough Crowd. He was brilliant, went to Columbia and Harvard Law.

One of my favorite performances:

Normally I'd say that's incredibly classless but I agree here. Giraldo was most famous for his roasts and I think he would have appreciated the joke.

/\ TMZ is running a poll asking whether or not that tweet is 'too soon,' and it's almost an even split -screwy-

This really sucks! He was so young. I really liked him a lot. Given that I'm an aspiring comic wanna-be, it really makes it all the more senseless. I had heard that he OD'd and was in the hospital, but it sounded like he would recover.

"If Greg Giraldo is cremated, will that be the 'Greg Giraldo Roast'?"

there has to be more to this story. just the other day he was in critical but stable condition. i wonder if they found him, revived him, but he was basically brain dead, and his family decided to pull the plug.
