Synopsis:

Spoiler:
In the premiere of this comedy about a new addition to an extended dysfunctional family, 23-year-old Jimmy Chance (Lucas Neff) adjusts to life as a single father following a fling with a violent criminal (Bijou Phillips), but he has some difficulty convincing his parents to take in another mouth to feed.

Starring:
Garrett Dillahunt (in a non-psychotic role)
Lucas Neff
Bijou Phillips
Cloris Leachman
Martha Plimpton

The show was created by Greg Garcia, who created My Name is Earl.

I saw a few promos for this and they actually made me laugh.

I'm definitely looking forward to this show. Probably my most-anticipated new show this season.

^ Same here, I may tune in for that alone on the off-chance he turns into a crazed killer after the first commercial break.

10 minutes in and I can't stop laughing. This show is fantastic. If it keeps this up, it'll probably be my new favourite show of the season. It's got a great lead-in with Glee, so hopefully it retains some of the audience and does good ratings-wise, 'cause I'd hate to see it canceled when it's already off to such a great start.

Loved the My Name Is Earl reference. This show is hilarious. The spirit of Earl lives on.

What was the reference? I didn't catch it.

I'm dying at Cloris Leachman suddenly getting lucid and yelling at everyone.

How did the Martha Plimpton character go from being a hot young mother to looking like Martha Plimpton?

Okay, that was fantastic. I didn't know what to expect from this show, but I laughed my ass off the whole way through. Hope they can keep it going.

I had absolutely no idea until I tuned in that Garrett Dillahunt was in this. That alone is worth price of admission.

Re: Raising Hope -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/21/10

Funny piece of trivia. The show was originally titled Keep Hope Alive, but they retitled it to Raising Hope.

Martha Pimpleton's character, Virginia, at the end said something along the lines of "Keeping this baby alive." I imagine the Pilot was written and shot before the show was retitled, so I imagine it was a reference to the title.

These characters are already great after only one episode. One of the best pilots I've seen in years. I hope they can keep it up and don't get canceled.

I can't believe Virginia threw up on the baby too, lol. I loved the exchange about Charles Manson. Garrett Dillahunt was great!

Can't wait for next week!

EDIT: By the way, the baby in the episode doesn't look like the baby in the promo picture. Is that just my imagination?

The funniest part was checking the grandma first when John Henry smelled they baby poop.

I missed it as well.

THERE’S a throwaway joke in the pilot episode of Greg Garcia’s new Fox comedy, “Raising Hope,” in which a news anchor on a television screen promises the conclusion to a story about “a small-time crook with a long list of wrongs he was making amends for.” But before that tale can be told, the television conks out — or, more precisely, is conked over someone’s head — and its ending is never revealed.

Haha, I heard the "on the lighter side of the news" part but completely missed the rest of it. That's so awesome!

Re: Raising Hope -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/21/10

It hasn't aired here in LA yet, but I'm glad to see the positive posts in here. I've been looking forward to this show. I can't wait to see Leachman bring the funny.

It's strange, I've never been a Martha Plimpton fan and frankly, I've always thought she looked kinda funny to me. But I think she has aged into a really beautiful woman. In fact, I've been looking forward to this show thanks to her appearance on "FRINGE". When I saw she was in this new show I wanted to see it.

It actually ends with "And you're not gonna believe how it ends!" which is even more awesome.

Dillahunt was as awesome as anticipated. Definitely thought it was awesome, but man if it isn't going to piss of some humorless bastards out there.

Re: Raising Hope -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/21/10

Before I opened this thread, I didn't know anything about the show, other than reading something briefly the other day about a new Martha Plimpton show. I watched it tonight, and loved it all the way through. I thought while watching that it had a My Name Is Earl feel. Now I'm here reading, and it all makes sense.

Re: Raising Hope -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/21/10

It has sort of a My Name Is Earl meets Malcolm In The Middle type vibe going, which is great as far as I'm concerned.

My wife had to stop watching after the baby went flying across the back seat.

I liked it quite a bit.

Watched this primarily for Martha Plimpton (one of my favorite actressses after seeing her in several terrific stage performances the past few years) and loved every minute of it. Looks like Fox has another winner.

Cromartie!!! (Sarah Connor Chronicles)

I didn't know the show would start out like that with the girl and all.
