"Star" is not synonymous with "movie star", or even "performer". It really only means "celebrity", as in a person who is easily recognizable based on their position in society. That may come from their performances as an actor or singer, but it may also come from their athletic ability, their own extroverted personality, or even association with some other celebrity. So, technically, all of these people are "stars", even if some are extremely faded, and some are completely undeserving of the title.

And I'm bummed that the Hoff is gone, not because I wanted to see him dance, but because Kym almost always gets the pathetic contestants.
