It's official....Starz is recasting Spartacus. They have already started a search.
Key thing mentioned in this article is the actor must be prepared to sign a "3-year contract"
That pretty much rules out Whitfield playing the role ever again if he does get better.

In the article, Ausiello goes on to say that Grant Bowler has a resemblance. Curious to see how Starz re-casts this...

why would they make the new guy sign a 3 year contract?
they better get someone awesome or this show will fail, i dunno if i even care to watch it without Andy coming back

It doesn't neccessarily mean that Spartacus will last 3 more seasons. It's basically so that the producers can retain his services for 3 seasons should the show last that long. The broadcast networks sign their talent to 7 year contracts for new shows.

Every time I click on this thread, I expect to hear the worst about Andy, but Spartacus or not, I hope he recovers

Exclusive: Wentworth Miller eyeing 'Spartacus'?
by Michael Ausiello and Andy Patrick
Categories: News, Scoop, Spartacus
Wentworth-Miller-Andy-WhitfieldImage Credit: C. Hodes/FoxI’m hearing ex-Prison Break con Wentworth Miller has expressed interest in taking over the title role in Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
As I reported last week, the Starz series — which briefly considered “closing up shop” after leading man Andy Whitfield dropped out to resume treatment for his Non-Hodgkin lymphoma — is moving forward with the recast option.
But is Miller right for the part? Since his Fox series wrapped, he’s been largely out of the limelight. And when he has been spotted, he hasn’t quite been the picture of buffness that the sand-and-sandals epic demands. Of course, that’s nothing a month or two with a personal trainer couldn’t fix. Your thoughts?
Personally, while I’m kinda psyched that the actor — who’ll always be Popular cheerleader Adam to some of us — is finally ready to get back in the game, he doesn’t seem quite right for Sparty. My first pick remains True Blood‘s ill-fated Cooter, Grant Bowler.
Anyway, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Your thoughts?

what do you mean? I remember Season 3 in Sona where Wentworth wore that sweatshirt all season in 100+ degree weather because he didn't want the others to see his prison tattoos.

Remember in season 4 Michael underwent overnight Tattoo removal surgery to magically remove all of them to get rid of that aspect of his character.
But, back to the point of this thread. Wentworth is not a good choice to play Spartacus. I think they need to cast an unknown from the UK, Ireland or Australia with a very husky voice like Whitfield.

The only role Wentworth could pull off on this show would be that of the new resident boy toy. Since the young lad who Barca was with is now gone.

This is the crappiest news I've heard in a while. Andy was fantastic in ths role. I honestly wish they'd take the story in a new direction and come back to him down the road.
Miller is a crappy choice. I loved Prison Break, but this is a whole new level. He plays the same character time and again. Shoot, I even saw him in Resident Evil 3D and said "gee, I wonder how he's going to get out of the jail?" He's NOT the guy for this role. For the love of Jupiter, don't cast him.

The Tattoos Wentworth had on Prison Break were fake. You knew that right?
