Dark Blue -- "High Rollers" -- 08/18/10

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
The covert squad slips into the world of casinos to snoop into the disappearance of a gambling-addicted law student. It all gets dicey in this high-stakes realm when Ty goes too extreme in his role as a high roller. Meanwhile, Jaimie's risk-taking comes under scrutiny.

Episode 4 of 10

If you visit the TNT message board, which is flooded with Trolls by way, a chunk of people who post in the Dark Blue message board aren't liking season 2. They miss the darker and grittier version from last season. Most of them hate Tricia Helfer's addition. I'm enjoying season 2, although I did really like season 1 alot.

I didn't see Season 1, but I think this season has been terrific. This show has a cool Michael Mann feel and the cast is fantastic. I like that the writers aren't afraid to let the storylines get complicated. It sucks that others aren't digging the show.

I do too. I think this season has been fine and I didn't think Season 1 was all that dark. I definitely want to see where Ty's character is headed because of his separation and probable divorce. Seems like he taking some chances.

Re: Dark Blue -- "High Rollers" -- 08/18/10

I just caught up on the last two eps. When did Ty and his wife separate? The only scene I recall from this season was her telling him about a promotion at work and they seemed fine, IIRC.

One of the thing that last season had that this season does not is the new girl's storyline. Last year she was new to the team with a secret past and a fiance she was cheating on with Dean. Now it appears she still hooks up with Dean but other than that we haven't seen anything of her personal life.

I like the addition of Helfer. She's hot and at the very least her character gets to knock McDermott's down a few notches every once and a while. I don't know where they are going with it, but I kind of wish they had kept those two out of the sack a little longer and played with the awkwardness of them having a one night stand expecting they wouldn't be working together.

Re: Dark Blue -- "High Rollers" -- 08/18/10

Wasn't crazy about this episode. I liked Max Martini as the main villain, but casting that fucking annoying as fuck douche Rick Hoffman gets a major thumbs down from me. The guy has zero versalility as an actor. He plays the same annoying character in every TV show he is cast in. In fact, I believe he was on an episode of Leverage in the 1st season and played the same type of sleazy smooth talking criminal.

^^ Yeah I noticed the plot hole with Ty and his wife. In episode 2, Ty was talking to her and bragging about taking down some crook and both of them seemed happy. We don't see or her or hear mentioned in episode 3 and now they are separated? I thought he was dumb for gambling away the $5,000 of evidence, especially in 1 hand of blackjack. Did he really think Carter wouldn't notice?

Also, Jaimie supposedly got the shit beaten out of her for her cover, yet the next day or 2 later all the bruises were gone from her face. Bruising like that would take more than a few days to fully heal.

I love Tricia Helfer. Now only is she sexy as hell, but I think she's a pretty solid lead actor and I think she and McDermott have really good chemistry. I have to agree that they should have played up the awkwardness of them working together after their 1 night stand and her being his boss than now having them in a full fledged relationship.

^^ Granted I know she was wearing makeup for her cover, I'm surprised that Martini's character wasn't suspicious that all those bruises suddenly disappeared.

I just kept telling myself that she put makeup on to cover it up, but deep down we all know it was just a glaring continuity error.

Re: Dark Blue -- "High Rollers" -- 08/18/10

The bruising stuff was silly (especially as they were portraying the guy as an ultra-cautious character). The casino host confession scene at the end was also a bit gimmicky - the ultra-obvious smile that tips the guy off was a it over the top and seemed a bit lazy (would have been nice for the writers to find a way to trip him up via something he said as opposed to a fake smile). Also did they not have someone covering the back door of the place?

The season hasn't been terrible, but I liked season 1 better so far.

With all the love season 1 seems to get I might have to got dl them. This year was the first I heard of the show and I'm really enjoying it so maybe they changed the tone of this season to try and get in new viewers like myself but alienated the old viewers?

the tone isn't changed as many would have you think... but if you like S2, you should love S1.

Re: Dark Blue -- "High Rollers" -- 08/18/10

Season 1 was much better.

Bet the suits told the producers to lighten the tone or else there would be no season 2.
