Artists did start to move to Tribeca in the 1960s, and artists like parties, so it's not really a stretch. The Factory was extant as early as 1962.

I thought it was more of a stretch that the artist Peggy met was actually 13 in 1965.

While the Velvets formed in '65 (although we don't know that was actually the Velvets playing), the Exploding Plastic Inevitable didn't start until 1966.

Right, but my point was that a random party in an abandoned warehouse doesn't equal the Exploding Plastic Inevitable. Unless you're saying that the party was supposed to be the EPI, which I didn't get at all.

Of all the great scenes in this episode, this was my favorite moment. It was very small and subtle, but I thought it was great.

I was getting that from the light show in the background, which was very reminiscent of the EPI.

Seems like you're reading into the scene. Just seemed like a random party to me.

They were also explicit in mentioning that the party was taking place in Washington Market, and the EPI took place further uptown.

While we were watching, my wife said "I wonder if Andy Warhol is gonna walk up."

So you weren't the only one thinking it

Re: Mad Men -- "The Rejected" -- 08/15/10

anyone else think this was a rather ho-hum episode?

i actually thought it was boring and a little off. Peggy standing over the wall to see Don in his office was so odd to me. the whole secretary thing i didn't like, more so bc of the actress. can't really put my finger on it. but, one of the worst i've seen with this series and cannot even recall another that i was completely taken out of.

Thanks. I don't know Manhattan geography that well.

I loved the episode.

And I thought Alexa Alemanni did a great job.

It was easily my favorite episode of the season so far.

Not a problem. That's actually what stuck out to me- Washington Market was essential razed in the late 1960s during construction of the WTC.

The best thing about this show is that most of the main characters are ever-evolving with the times, it could be subtle, or it could be showy, but they aren't simply part of the scenery going through the motions.

I loved how Joan replaced Don's secretary with someone he would have no way of compromising. Her no-nonsense handling of the work was awesome too! Hope she stays around permanently.

I swear while watching every episode I get a craving for a drink and a smoke... and I rarely drink and NEVER smoke.

Why do I get the feeling that the Mad Men series is actually just an advertising firm's idea to sell more alcohol and cigarettes?

Haha, I actually paused an episode one time to go to the store and get smokes. Old movies have the same effect.

While I didn't think it was explicitly the EPI, the music when Peggy first arrived sounded very much like The Velvet Underground.
