I thought this episode sucked, but she was at least giving Tommy a chance, and he just acted like a total and complete jerk. After all this time and all he's done she's trying to start anew, and he goes nuts because, what, he couldn't understand the menu? So he blows the whole thing? I actually thought the scene w/seeing Conner's friend was very well done, with very little words said. The rest of it? Ugh.

I'd be more in the Kill Tommy camp this time than Kill Janet.

See I took it as Tommy just being nervous and blowing it, not being a jerk and blowing it on purpose. But then ive always disliked Janet, so any time she starts bitching I want her to go.

I thought the beginning of the show was good, but that things went rapidly downhill on the date, although I agree about the part with Collin's friend. (I liked how he said "but I told them you were OK and did that all the time." or something like that.)
The way I reacted to the scene was that Janet kind of realized that Tommy was always going to be Tommy. The tough guy fireman who, whether sober or not, was more at home in his simplistic world and he could not even remotely cope with a step up in social strata, let alone a few steps, like that restaurant seemed it would be for him. Whether it was her escapades with MJF's character or Franco, she realizes there are men out there who are much more cultured (and in Franco's case, in the same line of work as Tommy) that would be better equipped to live in that world/venture there every so often.
Whether it was a realization that she needed out or just disappointment, that's how I took her reaction to Tommy's reaction at the restaurant. (Which, honestly, was a foregone conclusion I thought. I'm surprised she didn't lay into him about the idea for the restaurant/Tony Bennett show and did he actually spend time thinking about it on his own or just google it or ask one of the guys for help. I think it's been pretty apparent over the show's run that Tommy wouldn't come up with this on his own. When he couldn't even say the name of the lobster dish he'd mentioned earlier, I thought she was heading in that direction right there.)

I have the sinking suspicion that this show is going to end with Tommy having died way back in 9/11. ugh.

i thought this was one of the best eps of the entire series. i dunno, but everything clicked for me and it reminded me of RM of old. great dialogue with the crew, Tommy being Tommy and the last scene turned it upside down and went to tearjerker territory. thought it all really worked and loved it.

Other than the dinner scene, I liked it more than recent episodes because it wasn't about booze other than the 5 minutes with Coleen.

I hate nervous Tommy, with all his stuttering, yammering and nonsense. Or maybe, it's that I hate Dennis trying to play that.
