The Pillars of the Earth -- "Battlefield" -- 08/06/10

Pillars of the Earth

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
After William applies to have his father's title of earl transferred to him, he learns that a knight is also interested in the noble ranking. Elsewhere, Jack's reappearance causes a frightened King Stephen to order his assassination; hostages are taken from each side in the ongoing hostilities between the king and Maud; Waleran informs Maud that Philip is responsible for betraying Earl Bartholomew.

Episode 4 of 8

This aired on Friday night and is now available on Netflix streaming.

Have any of you been watching this? I know most of you probably don't have the time or patience to watch a period drama like this, but I'm impressed with it. It's a really well shot, acted and directed miniseries.

Yes, I like it quite a bit. Great production values and McShane is awesome!

I meant to watch, then forgot it was going to start and missed the first two episodes.

I'll probably check it out on DVD.

It's really good. The first two episodes are free ondemand and it streams on netflix. I've never read the book that it the series is based on but I'm enjoying it.

I like it as well. Its a nice little precursor to A Game of Thrones.

Plus I love Haylee Atwell. She is the only reason I stuck with The Prisoner as long as I did.

I'm waiting for Ian McShane to call someone a cocksucker.

I was hoping they had the balls to actually kill off Jack.

Still chugging at a good pace, I am very suprised how good it has been. Great set pieces, battle scenes are solid and acting is pretty good.

I loved the book, but its been 15+years since I read it. So enjoying the mini-series as its own thing,

Spoiler:
That would have been a major departure from the book, and I think fans of the book would have revolted. It would have been such a departure, you would basically end up with a completely different plot, and it wouldn't be the same story. At all.

I haven't seen this episode yet, but the first 3 were excellent! I read the book a couple of years ago and loved it. I really need to read the follow up.

I wish the book had the balls to kill him off too.

I am really enjoying this so far. Read the book about a decade ago so I really don't remember many details other than that I really liked the book. I just caught up on Netflix and can't wait until the next episode. First Spartacus and now this...Starz is kicking some ass.
