The Colony - Discovery, Tuesdays 10e/p
http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/colony/
Anyone else watching this? When the previews first came out I thought it could be really bad or pretty good. After 2 episodes I must say that we are enjoying this.
I wonder how much guidance they are getting. It seems that they are getting quite a bit, or at least were prepped beforehand.

Re: The Colony - Discovery, Tuesdays 10e/p
I am really confused as to how they are able to do this show with the fighting between them and the "interlopers". They must have told them before taping like no punching or something but in the first episode they were swinging sticks and beating the shit out of them. How do they get away with that? Do the actors sign away rights when they book the show?
Haven't seen the second episode yet but so far I'm liking it.

watched most of it last year. started watching again this year. it's not bad. the people are inherently stupid by focusing on things they shouldn't be.

I watched last week’s episode and have last nights DVRed. I’m liking it so far I’m just wondering how manufactured this show really is with all the extras. I mean in a real life scenario I think the colonists would fight back a little harder. I’m a sucker for anything post apocalyptic and this fits that bill so Ill keep watching.

On last year's show they said that the outsiders could not hit the colonists, but the colonists didn't know that. But this year it seems as though everyone is fair game. I mean, pepper spray right off the bat. I was uncomfortable with the level of violence...and the rotting pigs.
Lots of good ideas this year (like the animal fat oil) but it doesn't seem like they have a mad scientist like the bearded older guy last year.
Enjoying the show as always.

I watched the first season and will be watching this season too. The only thing that makes me question this show is the fights. Nobody can really hurt anybody because it is just a show and not real. This takes the tension out of the conflicts the colonists face.

I just watched the first episode of season one and was a bit confused by the show. If these participants know it's only a TV show, why are they so uptight when the four new folks show up?

I liked how they ditched the quarantine deal pretty quick.
I was also a little sad it wasn't in LA again. I wanted them to run into the guy from last year who at the end stayed behind because it was his city.

I'm kind of wondering what kind of a time frame the show producers tell these people when they cast them. It just seemed weird for Joey to stay behind last season unless the colonists felt that the experiment was going to go on for a long time. Which IMO would make the show more interesting because as time wears on we see the psychological effects it has on the colonists. This is what sets it apart from something like Survivor, where the contestants can see the end of the show coming near.

*Note* here is the summary from tv.com
This show exhibits a controlled experiment that makes us think about how we would survive in the midst of a catastrophe. It tries to see exactly what we would need to survive and rebuild society under the worst circumstances. For 10 weeks, 10 isolated volunteers will have the task of rebuilding… More what is left of society after a viral outbreak, while finding ways to communicate and get electricity, water and food

Did anyone watch the finale last night? Anyone hear Sian screaming (???) when she drove off with the VOPA people? Or was that just something else?
The very end made me WTF??

I thought I heard screaming too. My DVR cut off right as people started storming out of the fishing house. It was definitely a weird ending, though the "attack" didn't seem well though out given they were outnumbered and had no assurances that the place they had only briefly scouted would continue to be unoccupied or not have its own problems.

I believe she was cheering. I thought there would be a twist at the end where it says that VOPA held her captive for the rest of her life and did experiments on her (in this fictional world). That would have been funny.
The twist that did happen at the end was bitter sweet though. Felt bad for the colonists, but thought the twist was great. They probably all had a good laugh after it was all over.

I read the Live chat logs from last night and the producers said about the scream that "we'll let the viewers use their imaginations" but then a post on the colony's facebook page read that Sian said she doesn't remember screaming. So... I'm going to "use my imagination."

Just saw the finale. Pretty good season overall. That ending was pretty wtf. Anyone know if there is some place where a wrap up or post production comments would be?

It would be cool to have a bonus episode dedicated to Tick's point of view from the beginning (if he really was there from the beginning, probably not?)

I recall they said he was there from day one. They even showed a couple of quick shots from the earlier in the season where the cameras caught him, but the colonists did not.

In reflection, I think the colonists survived, but didn't necessarily thrive. I am really curious what the day-to-day is like. It seems to be me that while you are stripped of modern conveniences, having a camera crew constantly following you or in your face would remove you from context a little bit. I'm also interested to know how much the "experts" consulted.
