Yeah, you don't want anyone with musical talent and huge credentials on the show...

Oh wow...now I won't be tuning in at all.

From the TMZ article:

We're told the show will be going back to a three-judge format and assuming all deals are finalized, the judge's panel will consist of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

We're told the only way Kara could get a reprieve is if the J-Lo deal falls apart -- but we're told that deal is done.

Ellen DeGeneres announced earlier Thursday that she was leaving the show after just one season.
Works for me. But who will be the "brutally honest" judge? Tyler, or Lopez? My guess would be Steven Tyler which may or may not be good, other than his songs I don't know anything about him.

Well, that's certainly a shake up. Never liked Ellen. Kara was ok, but she came off too preachy sometimes. Honestly, Simon was the show and I may bail because of his departure.

Ummm...wouldn't that just be The X Factor?

I can't imagine why anybody would watch Idol when The X Factor is going to be basically exactly the same show, but with the one reason to even watch a show like that, which is Simon.

Here's what I don't get. Auditions started last week. How can they be going through these machinations now? Shouldn't this all have been decided weeks, if not months, ago?

Who's sitting at the audition judges' table?

They should have hired Ben Folds - he was such an awesome judge on that a capella show (I forget the name already).

the auditions that started are the mass cattle call that they love to show for each city. The process is that people are put into groups and sing briefly one after another to assistant producers who we never see. They will pass through the bad ones and whoever else they are casting for ie white guys with guitars or bieber clones, etc. There are probably two or three more rounds like that until the select few go in front of the judges. That is why they ask people to wear the same clothes through this process. The judges will be needed in september when the auditions start up.

They don't actually meet the judges for awhile. What we see on TV is like the 2nd or 3rd cut.

They should've hired Lemmy Kilmister to replace Simon. He's British and brutally honest.

I hear that. The thing is, I've looked up her credits - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kara_DioGuardi_discography

I can't find one song that I've ever heard, or even heard of. I see familiar names like Ricky Martin, Jessica Simpson, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Pink, etc. But I don't see she has written/co-written any of their 'hits'.

Then again, I haven't found pop music to be very entertaining in the last ten years or so. It's either rap or meaningless bubblegum music that has no originality.

That's the stuff she writes/produces, and there's apparently an audience for it, but it doesn't impress me at all.

She's co-written a few songs for Carrie Underwood, who is like the Godess of Country Music right now, and an occasionally song here and there that gets some airplay on Top 20 radio. If you haven't really kept up with Pop music these days, then I can see how you may have never heard of any of her songs.

Well okay he's been performing for 40+ years, but I just don't think he's the right guy. I think they need an smart music executive like Simon who's been in the business a long time and can keep it real to these contestants. Now your going to have Tyler, who's way past his prime and being relevant, J-Lo, who's career is sinking and needs this to revive it, and Randy who is a Producer and doesn't one one damn piece of good criticism. Someone like David Foster, who has produced hundreds off hits over 30+ years, and also has his own label would have been perfect. He was also a judge on that Celebrity Duets special that Simon produced a few years ago.

One article I saw mentioned that the portion with the judges begins in September.

I knew they did several cuts before meeting the judges, but I assumed it was all done as part of the same visit to the city. Seems to me that going back for a second or third trip isn't exactly cost effective.

Too bad. With Simon checking out half the time, I thought Kara was the best judge last year. She certainly deserved to stay over Randy, but I guess he wins via seniority.

Ok, that's enough screwing around. Time to get Gordon Ramsay's agent on the phone. Just tell him there's a Fox show Ramsay's not already on, and the deal will get done.

That would be cool. Maybe American Idol would only last half as long cuz Gordon will get pissed and say "Shut it down. Piss off with ya" before the other shitty singers even get a chance to make fools of themselves.
