Strange that you include Band of Brothers, since it's a mini-series. With that being the only mini on your list, you've excluded John Adams, The Pacific, From the Earth to the Moon, and others.
But, I still voted for BoB. Otherwise, it would be The Wire.

I went through the wiki list of HBO shows, and it's incredible how much quality stuff they've put out.

Out of the poll list, Rome for sure. Although, I'm expecting (hoping) that Game of Thrones will take it's spot when released.

A Song of Ice and Fire.
Ok, maybe I am getting ahead of myself a bit. I haven't seen enough HBO series to vote really, but I do like Entourage a lot, and am currently watching Deadwood and enjoying the hell out of it.

This could change, since I've yet to finish many of them. But I can't imagine anything topping Six Feet Under in my mind.
But such good choices. 9 of those shows might make my top 30 of all-time list.

Re: Your Favorite HBO Series?
My favorite is Six Feet Under because I connected with the characters much more than I had ever before on any other series. If I were picking the best HBO series it would be the Wire no contest, which happens to be my second favorite from the list.

I would've choosen Sopranos, but the ending was very unsatisfying. SFU, I loved that show from start to finish, and that is one of the only tv series that really got to me at the end of its run. True Blood I would currently rank as 3rd with Entourage and Curb at 4th & 5th.

The only ones that I haven't seen are Rome (which I now have on blu-ray), and Deadwood (which I have on DVD), but from what I've seen, I go with Curb. I was going to go with Oz, but I really didn't like the developments of the last season, where everything seemed to be a free-for-all.

The Wire.
I wish Carnivale had gotten more than just two seasons.

Re: Your Favorite HBO Series?
This thread is just reminding me of how much I have to watch yet...I have almost all of The Pacific on the DVR (haven't had time to sit down and watch marathon style how I prefer), the SFU boxset (haven't watched any), just started watching The Wire for the first time last night on DirecTV, two seasons of Entourage to catch up on, the most recent season of Big Love...and it's not HBO, but I'm about halfway through S2 of The Shield and getting sucked into that. Ugh.
Voted Band of Brothers...still the best thing I've ever seen on TV, even if it was a mini-series.

Lots of great choices. My gut reaction was The Wire, so that's what I went with. Honorable mention to the Sopranos, Rome, Deadwood, John from Cincinnati, Treme, Carnivale, Band of Borthers, the Pacific, and True Blood.
Ask me again this time next year and I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that Game of Thrones and/or Boardwalk Empire had eclipsed the Wire.
