Just a little nitpick but the continuity director on this series should have been fired. The fortune cookie messages kept changing in every shot. The "y" in "you" is capitalized in one shot, then not, then capitalized again. (I noticed this because I thought it was odd that "You" was capitalized in mid-sentence.) The message to our heroine (whats-her-name) is all on one line in one shot, two lines in the next. There were a few other things as well but I can't remember now.

I may be wrong but didn't her fortune say "kill your neighbor" in the first ep. and "kill Sam" (I think that's his name) in this ep.

Re: Persons Unknown -- "The Edge" -- 06/14/10
The writing on this show continues to be simply awful. It is so amateurish I'm left to wonder if there isn't a nepotistic reason this show made it to air. The dialogue is some of the worst I've ever heard outside of first year screenwriting classes and either the ridiculous continuity errors are purposeful and will be explained later, or they simply don't care and ran out of money (it is nothing more than a summer replacement anyway.) The characters are as thin and one dimensional as a business card and bordering on pure stereotype. Moira is the "expositional character" who turns out to be a mental patient, but is able to perform deep muscle tissue extraction with a swiss army knife, no anesthesia and no sanitization. Oh, and they're able to run afterwards... -ohbfrank-
I'll give it one more episode but if the writing doesn't get any better (and I hold no hopes that it will) then I am out. Life's too short to watch shitty TV. |

I don't think anyone here believes this is good writing or acting (I hope), but the puzzles are kind of fun and it's a summer guilty pleasure. This is the kind of show that is so bad, it can get away with the unexpected and I am tired of formulas.

I'll give it one more episode but if the writing doesn't get any better (and I hold no hopes that it will) then I am out. Life's too short to watch shitty TV. 1) The creator and Producer (Chris McQuarrie) is an Academy Award Winning Screenwriter. 2) It's a co-production with FOX and Televisa Mexico meaning it was shot entirely on location in Mexico using local Mexican production crews saving millions on production costs. 3) The cast is mostly B actors (Jason Wiles and Alan Ruck are probably the best known of the cast) again saving lots of $$$ in costs. 4) NBC paid a very small licensing fee to FOX to air it. I agree with your assessment about Moira and the removal of the implants. But, I'm not watching this looking for reasons to hate it. I've been entertained through 2 episodes. Harper's Island, which was a similar 1 and done show was entertaining even though alot of people complained about the acting too. Your comment about the dialogue is really subjective. I haven't noticed anything that was really stiff or unnatural sounding. I think it's already tough for a TV writer to create stuff that someone would actually say in real life in order for it to work in the plot. Most of the shows that I watch that have better production value than this, I always ask myself if someone would actually speak that way in a normal conversation and probably 9 times out of 10 I would say no. |

as long as it finishes, the ratings for Monday's ep were abysmal at best.
