Re: Top Shot

Barretts are sweet
the wave of air/gasses that washes over anyone to either side is crazy

the recoil isn't bad either, it's more of a long push than a kick like most shotguns and rifles give

and george is an arrogant dick and has been all season

Re: Top Shot

I got hooked on this show from watching the season 2 marathon over the weekend (and then caught up on season 1 on Netflix) so I'm looking forward to tonight's show.

Re: Top Shot

I'm a bit disappointed with the shooting
75 yards with a scoped AR type rifle should have been cake for someone claiming to be good enough to be on this show

seems to me the people that get on the show aren't doing any special training before filming starts
if I was going to try to get on I'd be running laps in the range parking lot and then running up to the firing line and shooting right away at tiny targets. shooting off hand, supported, prone, sitting. asking people at the range if they have guns I don't and if I could do some shooting with them to expand my experience with other guns, etc

these people seem to think that being good in their one narrow specific area is going to be enough to win
I could excuse the season 1 people for that since it was the first season, and maybe season 2. but by now potential applicants should know better

Ugh, I hope Jake goes home soon. I don't know why his teammates put up with his shit. This is one reality show where I don't want to see any stupid drama.

My wife & I both predicted that the chick would be nominated this week (especially after Amanda was sent home the first week).

Two reasons why a female will never win Top Shot :

(1) The dudes will use the "physically weaker" argument to justify putting the female on the chopping block. The early shows are about keeping the team strong, but it always comes down to "anyone but me" (unless a shooter has royally blown the challenge & there's no question).

(2) Unlike Survivor, Big Brother, or other shows where the dudes want to keep a hot babe in a bikini around for eye candy, Top Shot is about a bunch of macho guys who are into male bonding. How many of them want to take their gf's or wives along on their hunting or fishing trips? With the chicks gone, they can belch, fart, tell raunchy jokes, etc. with impunity (not that most wouldn't have done so anyway). Not saying I blame them...having one woman around (even "one of the guys" who has been in the military & police) can be uncomfortable for both genders. Now it's a frat house environment.

The only way a female would ever have a chance of winning is if the shooter genders were equally divided...or if there were 60% female to 40% male ratio. T'aint gonna happen.

Even though it wasn't fair to nominate either of the shooters this week, the bottom line is that any contestant can save himself/herself by outperforming the competition in the elimination round. That's the main strength of Top Shot...it really does reward talent in the end & places their fate in their own hands (unlike shows where the strongest can be voted out simply because they are a threat). Dustin did smoke Sara in the challenge, so she can't complain too much.

Love this show. Colby is an awesome host, too.

Re: Top Shot

A friend of mine let me shoot one of those S&W hand cannons that they used on the first episode. It was quite a kick (pun intended). I was shooting across our creek at a piece of driftwood lying in front of a bank of earth. I got the feeling that if I got anywhere close to the target, it would just break apart in fright.

We were quite a distance from the house, but my wife said that the china rattled every time we fired the monster.

Season 1 was the only one where the woman wasn't eliminated early on. In fact, she wasn't eliminated at all, but had to drop out because her father was dying. But after looking at Wikipedia, she was never nominated, and the other 4 women lost on their only chance.

So no, they haven't done it yet.

Re: Top Shot

It really was cool.

I'm not sure how fair it was to stick all the losers on one team. It seems like you're asking for that team to lose every challenge.

Does anybody else think Mike would make a good Superman?

I guess, if you like the taste of asshole.

It would have been poetic justice if Mike had won the final since he was only in the game again due to Jake quitting. That would have been the ultimate slap in the face to Jake.

But Dustin definitely deserved the win. He is a great marksman and seems like a really good guy. I like how he went for the "ballsy" tough shot in the first round of the final show.

Re: Top Shot

Awesome performance by Dustin in the finale. He was a strong competitor all season but he really did a great job to win convincingly in the finale.

Re: Top Shot

Season 4 has started, and they had a great opening to the show.

They started with 18 competitors, and had a shoot off to determine the two 8 person teams. Of course that also means that they eliminated 2 players even before teams were selected.

Teams were made in order of finish in the shoot-off, with odds on one team and evens on the other. That makes the teams much more balanced than the one on one matchups from last season.

They're going with a pretty diverse selection of weapons this year. Flint locks, cannons and grenade launchers were all shown in the preview. I do like that this show ups the ante every year, giving us cool weapons and fun challenges as well.

Finally, it looks like they finally found some women that can shoot. In the first team challenge, the red team had the woman shoot at the smallest targets. I don't think I've seen that before on the show, where they have a woman tackling the toughest shots. It's a nice change from last season where the women were both gone by the 3rd or 4th week.

Even better, the elimination challenge was one of the closest in the history of the show.

I'm sure some of you missed this, as it's on in the deepest time slot in all of TV. Luckily, this show does an immediate repeat, and then repeats again 4 hours later, so there's plenty of first night opportunities.

Also, H2 is launching a spin-off of this show called Top Guns on Wednesday. It's a more in depth look at the weapons on the show. Looks like they'll be showing Colby using the weapons used in each episode of Top Shot, though you'd figure there has to be more to it than that.

Re: Top Shot

had to laugh at the MP chick
"I'm not just a pretty face" as she wears a shirt with a v neck showing off her nice tits

and I'm glad that whiny blond in the light blue shirt got booted right away. He would have been super annoying in future competitions

Re: Top Shot

they're down to 5 now. The tower challenge was pretty cool.
I've also been watching the spin off, Top Guns. Colby gets to shoot in it and they've had a few of the people from previous top shot seasons

I'm enjoying Top Guns quite a bit. They are able to spend more time focusing on the guns.
