Re: The Next Food Network Star -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 6/06/10
Fair point and all, but if Brianna was never going to "get it" in regards to being on camera (and it sure looked like she wasn't going to any time soon), there really was no point in keeping her around a while longer just because her food was good. If it was Top Chef, I could see the merit in it, but this is someone who is going to have their own show, and Brianna never once showed the slightest bit of camera presence. It would be easier for them to mold someone like Herb or Serena.
It's a relatively moot point anyway, though, because neither one of them will be there in the end. They're probably the next two to go. They clearly really want Aarti to be the one left standing at the end, and her inclusion in the bottom tonight was done to scare her and show her that she can't coast by. I knew she would be in the bottom three as soon as she said she cooked to not go home rather than to win.

I think that Serena and even Herb should've gone home before Brianna, especially considering Serena used store-bought puff pastry and undercooked it and Herb's dish was terrible according to the judges. As soon as the judges said that Serena was safe I knew Brianna was going home.

Brianna rarely seemed to act like she enjoyed being around people ... she seems to be a great cook, but she was never going to win with a camera personality hovering around zero. Serena should have been gone long ago ... some of her food has been good, but she's hard to understand seems easily frazzled.

On a side note, I finally figured out that the Cooking Channel is not a new channel, but rather the rebranded Fine Living Network. Too bad my provider does have an HD version of it (if there is one).

The judges keep talking about how the one contestant needs to tone down her smile while the show's hostess has one of the phoniest looking smiles I've ever seen.
I'm rooting for Tom and now Brad (since he's finally relaxed in front of the camera).

I have seen her once in person (no I did not talk to her). I have to say they say the camera adds 10lbs. Her smile is bigger on TV. She also seems to smile when she talks or grins when she talks.

Serena finally got the axe ... she was one note, but boy could she hold that note for a while. Aria should be next on the block though Tom needs to stop being such a goofball or he'll take her place.

My wife and I were remarking about how Aria started off seeming to be really nice, but the last couple of weeks has turned a complete 180. We are thinking that the top 3 will be Aarti, Tom and Brad.

For me at this point it's Herb that would have a show that I would watch, if he stayed with his new POV. His former cooking light think I had no interest in.

I watch a bit of the NFNS After Party (on the Cooking Channel) and there were some interesting things that came to light.
Serena and Brianna really got into it at the house... and I think that Artii was right in controlling the menu and nixing Selena's seafood dish for a vegetarian one, but maybe she should have put the kibosh on Tom's bad seafood plate.

I may have mentioned this somewhere already, but earlier in the season I realized that I was right next door to the taping of the "Red Carpet" event of this season's show. I was in Hollywood for my company's annual meetings, and we had a reception right next to it. I obviously didn't recognize any of the chefs because this was back in January, but seeing it on TV a few weeks ago was cool.

Episode 8 (08/01/10) -- "Cooking for Eva Longoria" (5 Finalists) -- 60 Minutes -- 9/8c
The five remaining finalists are excited when Giada reveals they will cook their all-time favorite signature dish and present it to the camera, but surprise – there’s a twist! It’s not that easy. They have to add their least favorite ingredient, which was delivered by the family members of each finalist. After recovering from the emotional reunion of seeing their families, finalists are each assigned “an emotion” and must cook a dish and tell a story inspired by that emotion for special guests Eva Longoria Parker and Todd English at their restaurant, Beso.

... and Brad goes home. It is unfortunate, as I think he has a lot more promise than Aria who seems more fake and incompetent each week.

Aria is by far the most grating personality on the show. Her voice is so fake and she speaks as if she's always talking to children. "Hiiiiiii it'ssss Arriaaaaaaaaaaa! Welcome to Famillly Styllleeeeeee!"

I was sure they would send Aria home, they way they've been dogging her the last few weeks. It still looks like Aarti's to lose if she doesn't screw up. Herb is my darkhorse. Tom looks like such a slob I wouldn't want to watch him cook food. Yecch.

I thought Brad had another week in him. I can't stand Aria or Aarti. I'm still pulling for Herb and Tom.
I agree that Herb is the dark horse, but he needs to really push it.

Re: The Next Food Network Star -- Season 6 Thread -- Premieres 6/06/10
I'm kind of shocked by Brad's elimination, but I think that they wanted the final 4 to be split between the sexes. That's the only reason I can see them choosing Aria over Brad. This is obviously the 4-hour deliberation Bob spoke of on the Afterparty where he said Susie was so upset she couldn't deliver the news.
I think it'll be Tom next week, although he's my favorite remaining contestant. They were speaking to him in the preview when they were talking about the tough steak. His Jealously presentation was fantastic.
