I'll add to the chorus for Six Feet Under as most satisfying. Still makes me tear up.

It's not a contest, so more than one title per category is fine. And if you want to throw in your own category, go for it.. Also if you can, give a few thoughts why you felt the way you did (but for the sake of potential new viewers please confine any commentary over plot specifics to inside spoiler tags)

I know there has to be another thread here with this same topic, but I searched and nothing came up so....

Most satisfying: Cheers

Least satisfying: X-files.

Most Creative: Newhart

You got it. I always thought Seinfeld's finale was very fitting, if a bit poorly executed.

I think it would have been more widely accepted had they simply shown the characters and not the clips of their interactions with the main 4. That would have almost completely eliminated the glorified clip show feel it had. Besides, we didn't need to be reminded of who these people were. I'm quite confident Larry David could have found a way to fill the time lost from excising the clips.

Most satisfying: a 3-way tie between Alias, Frasier, and Six Feet Under
Least satisfying: Seinfeld

MacGyver and Quantum Leap had decent, if not completely satisfying endings.

Quantum Leap's 'epilogue' was satisfying, total tear jerker, much like the Wonder Years. However both had average episodes that had the epilogue tacked on for closure.

Most: MASH, The Wonder Years

Least: Seinfeld (felt like a clip show, not a finale), Sopranos (well, mostly just the last 5 minutes)

Wished they had a proper finale: Married with Children

Thinking about the x-files ending really pisses me off. I dealt with the last 3 seasons of mostly crap and got a ending that entirely sucked heh. FU Chris Carter! heh

DID I JUST BLOW YOUR MIND?

 Whether you were being funny Groucho or serious Groucho, I agree I think, but of course that might be because it's so fresh on my mind. I've never been as emotionally invested in a show as I was with Lost, and I knew the finale wasn't going to make me perfectly happy...I guess maybe it was very emotionally satisfying for me, but it's still annoying at all the unanswered questions or completely irrelevant plots of past seasons.

my favorite was "Heroes", because it was the finale.

Any idea what her ending was?

I'm not sure if this is OT or not. I really no longer watch any TV shows till they are done with. A ending, not a CH or some cut short end that needs a ending. SCTC was the last one. I mean "I love you John" and that was it, it was not even a ending.

Re: Series Finales: What's your vote for Least/Most Satisfying?

I'll admit I was not a fan of the Seinfeld finale at first. However, after a few years and having re-watched it a number of times, it's a very "Seinfeld" type episode and I've grown to like it a bit more. Sure it's still not an amazing finale but not as bad as I once thought it was. The bit at the very end with Jerry doing standup in prison is really funny as well and I didn't remember that part originally.

Some of the shows from the UK have great finales, perhaps because the seasons are usually very short so they craft a nice tight narrative(Life on Mars and more recently Ashes to Ashes). Dexter tends to do that as well.

Most: Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Cheers, Star Trek: The Next Generation

Least: Seinfeld, The X-Files (the recent movie added insult to injury),

Most Creative: Newhhart, The Sopranos, St. Elsewhere

I've purposely not mentioned enders like Twin Peaks and Dallas, which ended on strong episodes, but were actually filmed before their cancellations were official - and were only supposed to be season-cliffhangers, as opposed to series finales.

I despise that My So-Called Life, Homefront and Space: Above and Beyond didn't get proper send offs.

Most Satisfying/Creative: Six Feet Under
Nothing compares to that series finale. It had everything you could want in an ending. Proof is that at least once a month, the finale thread gets bumped up on here from someone that just watched it.

Least: Seinfeld
Hated that it ended the way it did.
