Are you ready for LOST to end?

Re: Are you ready for LOST to end?
I'm fine with it. I think most shows should run 5-6 seasons, max.

Yes.
I like the show, and I'm optimistic about the finale, but everywhere I turn - or go on the internet - it's "Lost this" and "Lost that". I'm in danger of Lost fatigue.

Yes, I'm ready for it to end. I wish it would have ended sooner, frankly. I said it in another thread, but watching this show from the beginning, knowing what we know now, is going to be a pain in the ass. I'm uncertain if I'm even going to attempt such a frustrating endeavor. Six seasons of macguffins and episodes that ultimately didn't amount to a lick of squat will ultimately sink the legacy of this show. And this is coming from a fan who's been following the program since September of '04. It'll be good to finally get some "answers" and a conclusion come Sunday evening.
Edited to add:
Damon Lindelof is the most annoying bastard in showbiz today. I can't wait for his eventual tweets on how more people should have unquestionably praised his brilliant writing. He should take a cuse from Cue.

I have thought every season but this season has been great. This season has been pretty awful so I am hoping the finale doesn't disappoint.

In the beginning, the show was about characters you sort of cared about or were interesting, nowadays these characters just seem to be chess pieces on a chess board, this explains my overall disinterest of the past few seasons. But I will watch it to the bloody end, but I don' t think I'll miss it much once it's done.

In retrospect LOST would have worked better as a tightly scripted 2 season series (48 episodes).
Rework the story arc, cut away all the crap, filler, and unresolved loose ends and whittle that bad boy to the bone.

Yes and no. If they could recapture some of the real mystery, I'd love to see it go on. However, this season has felt at times like they are running on fumes, so I'm glad it's wrapping up now.

I'm ready... for the end of all the "Does Lost suck do the actors suck these threads are talking about Lost so they suck" threads.

There are definitely problems with the trajectory of the last two seasons if the creators, and viewers, wanted the show to be one cohesive experience.
Personally I don't think there is enough time left to change that.
I think people may finally understand the deep, deep disappointment I felt back in '83 with Return Of The Jedi. There is a big similarity I am seeing here with the way both projects establish a premise/conflict- have a killer second/middle act in which the mythos is deepened and the stakes are upped- and then in the last act the original conflict(s) are dismissed as we get introduced to a new antagonist who suddenly becomes the main focus of the macro story. In Jedi the conflict between Luke and Vader is neutered so that it can become a conflict between Luke and the Emperor. There's also the conflict between Luke and Han for the affections of Leia- suddenly dismissed with a line of dialogue since resolving it would be too messy for a filmmaker that just wants to wrap everything up and get away from the material for a while.
Across The Sea just comes way too late in the game for us to care about Jacob and MiB as characters- and there's a logical resentment that the characters we grew to care about now have to be utilized to resolve the conflict of these two other characters.
That said, I guess I finally understand how the people who were never bothered by Jedi feel. I don't have 6 years of musing hinging on 2 hours of resolution. I enjoyed the hell out of the ride and was very happy to spend 100+ hours with these characters- despite so many plotlines going nowhere or not adding up to much.
And unlike Battlestar Galactica (a ride I also enjoyed greatly but whose finale let me down) there is so much more levity and humor in this universe that I don't think it will seem as daunting to revisit. As good as BSG was, the tense and dour nature of so much of it (rightly so given the premise) just isn't pulling me to revisit it- especially since I see the wrap up as such a betrayal of the premise and some of the characters. Even if LOST has some of that, I think the shows abundant humor will be still be able to lure me back eventually to invest the time in re-watching.
There's just too many little pleasure sprinkled within to get hung up on the larger picture.
sorry for the typical long winded post-
short answer- yeah, as enjoyable as it was, it went on too long for it's own good.

If they hadn't decided to bring it to an end the way that they have (which may lead to a very unsatisfying conclusion and so far has left some major plot points unanswered or absurd in hind sight) and gone in a different direction with more thrills and less time travel, then I'd say, yes, I could have watched these characters go on for some time.
Even with "Loster" in development for fall 2011, I will be sad when the show ends even if the finale fails. I already miss Shannon, Libby, Charlotte, and Juliet among others.

Yes. I loved the early seasons, but after S3 if felt like they were just making up shit as they went. Every now and then there would be an amazing episode like The Constant, but overall it became a chore to watch. I actually never finished the fourth season and may not even bother after hearing all the complaints about how the final season is falling apart. So I was ready for it to end a while ago.

Likewise, I think Fastforward should have been a one season show from the beginning, all planned out. It would have been better. I'm hoping the finale will wrap things up well.
We could learn some lessons from the Brits about doing serial shows.

Re: Are you ready for LOST to end?
Not only will I miss looking forward to watching the show each week, I will miss all the speculation that's gone on for 6 years in this forum and with my co-workers. I'm also sorry to see it go because it was a game-changer type of show, and I think it will be awhile before another drama that does that comes along. I think if the writers had presented mysteries and then answered them along the way rather than waiting years to do it (or waiting until the very end) it may not have alienated so many viewers. I think a formula like that would have allowed the show to run a few more seasons.
