Both are WB shows and I don't think NBC wanted to piss off David E. Kelley for the 2nd straight Pilot season (they passed on one of his shows last season) so it's a good deal.

Yeah, I remember. WB likely lowered their fees for Chuck.

This is pure speculation, but maybe the money they saved from canning Law & Order enabled them to pick up Chuck & DEK's new show.

It initially got 13 for season 3 and it grew to 19, so anything can happen.

IMHO all shows should have 13 episode seasons. Would certainly make them tighter and a whole season can be aired almost entirely without interruption.

Not to mention the current 6 episode "arc" hasn't really been lighting it up either.

I disagree, Networks would then need to greenlight twice as many shows and it would actually IMO cost a lot more. A season is 35 weeks and then you would have to pay for 2 separate shows/crews/actors/studios as opposed to budgeting for 1 show with the same people in 1 timeslot. And the risk of failure grows immensely.
