I did like the fact they slowed down a bit and let me into the characters lives for a second, so now at least I know who's who.

I was reading an article about the show and learned something new: "The 1st Marine Division spent more time in Australia than Easy Company did in Europe."

Great episode.
I'm loving William Sadler's Puller. So many actors would have went overboard with such a giant man to portray, hell Puller's as close to a myth as America comes. His real life exploits would be called ridiculous movie nonsense if put in a film.
I really liked that family and the girl he met.
Puller telling that drunk boy about the MOH. That was a great scene because Sadler played it so understated, and in doing so elevated it.

The scene when Puller was telling Basilone about the medal was great. I loved Sadler smiling at the end and laughing when he picked up the garbage pail.

I was a bit dubious about an episode with no fighting but I loved this, particularly the scenes with Basilone struggling to accept that he was a hero when he just wanted to be a regular Marine.
I agree that Sadler is doing a great job portraying Puller without making him a cartoon character.

Really enjoyed it. I was getting kind of lost, didn't really know these characters..but we get a closer look at a couple of the guys.

I really liked it as well, and I'm usually much more interested in the battle scenes in things like this. Also had no idea they spent all that time in Australia, and realizing with each episode how little I know about the Pacific theater.

it wasn't as bad as i thought it could be, but it wasn't as good as the other two episodes.
turns out that Alice chick was the girl who played the hot evil transformer in Transformers 2.

Oddly this is the first episode that I haven't been able to "shake" after watching it last night. It's amazing that sleeping in the stadium was actually a luxury for them. The only drawback was that there wasn't any sense of the amount of time passed between arrival and the end of the episode when it seems like they will ship out again. It could have easily been illustrated by the characters talking about what was going on in the European theater at the time.

I powered through the first 3 eps in a row earlier this week. I really enjoyed 1 & 2, lotsof great battle action and good set-ups to the stories before each one, but I thought 3 was a real snoozer. It stopped the momentum the show had going for me dead in its tracks. I hope 4 picks up the pace. I didn't need to see an entire episode about falling in love and meeting families, save that shit for a Nick Sparks movie. I want warfare, dammit.

I really like seeing the John Basilone storyline unfold as a part of this. His story is good enough for its own movie.

Driving up the 5 from Legoland last week I saw the sign near Camp Pendleton that names that section of the highway the "Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone Memorial Highway". It's cool to finally learn why it's been named that.
