I'll admit Day 8 is not good, but I want to see 24 retire, not get cancelled.

I'm down for one more season

I agree that this season isn't as good as most. I still enjoy it.

Lost and 24 ending at the same time. What am I gonna watch?

I'm prepared for LOST to retire.

I'm wondering if there are enough episodes left to be shot for the writers/producers to change the planned ending and give Jack a decent send off.

Not only isn't this show going to another network, but frankly I'll be VERY surprised if a theatrical film ever gets made. There's always talk of a movie right after a popular series leaves the air (Sopranos, anyone?), but in reality it's happened very, very few times with the original actors intact (Star Trek, Twin Peaks, Firefly, Sex and the City, The X-Files, and perhaps a handful of others that I'm forgetting). It's not a matter of desire as much as it is the logistical problem of getting all parties back together...I mean, look how long it took to get another Indiana Jones movie made, and we're all STILL waiting for that Arrested Development film.

Kiefer's surgery may help them in the long run, cause it may give them enough time to change the ending if necessary.

I think the movie is a good possibility. With Kiefer as producer and appreciative of the character and fans, im sure hes pushing hard for it.

Just heard the news about 24 ending.

Yup, I'm still alive and well. Just enjoying my vacation here in Asia.

Can't say I'm surprised at all. From what I heard Howard Gordon and company was waiting to hear from FOX on what they wanted to do before they start working on episodes 23 and 24. So, there is more than enough time for them to wrap up the show and give Jack his sendoff to the feature film world.

BTW, I heard about Annie Wersching's pregnancy, so it's not like she will be working once season 8 wraps anyways. I do hope 20th Century FOX finds a way to write Renee Walker into the feature films.

Yep, gives me more than my dose of over-the-top ass-kicking -- only without the boring sub-plots.

I don't know what sort of proper send-off they will do if they plan to make a movie series out of 24. They will have to leave it a bit open otherwise the movies will have to be some sort of prequel

Nope and it would be highly unlikely Scrubs will be (the only chance it has is syndication money). However both are in their 9th season so they will have lasted at least 1 season longer then 24. If Scrubs doesn't get renewed then 24 will have more episodes then Scrubs though due to the 24-hour concept creating 24 episode season instead of the usual 22. Scrubs last few seasons have also been shorter then 20 episodes.

Would Jack sacrificing himself in order to stop the bomb be considered a proper sendoff? The feature film could be centered about Renee tracking down those responsible if they wanted to do it on the cheap or a prequel if they wanted Kiefer. I mean seriously...if they can put out a DVD wrapping up Prison Break, they can give 24 a proper sendoff.

You're comparing apples and oranges in most of those examples. For a 24 movie you need Keifer, Mary Lynn and Howard Gordon. I can't imagine it would be that hard to pull three people together. Outside of X-files, all the other shows have large casts.

Both started a year before 24 so they are currently in their ninth seasons. Scrubs was basically DOA this year so it's unlikely to return. As mentioned Smallville already got the greenlight for next season.

I actually would love to see this the show reappear in 10-15 years with an older, grizzled veteran Jack, whether it be as a movie, a relaunched series, or a mini-series. Although with all the show's time jumps Jack is something like 15 years older than he was on Day One (when he was already old enough to have a 16-year old daughter) so maybe in 24 terms he's already there. :)

Rumors of the show moving to NBC...

Doesn't sound right. 24 still gets decent/good ratings.

edit: Kind of sucks though, but it is about time.

Re: FOX decideds NOT to renew '24'

They should take a year off, hire a completely new batch of writers, come up with a final season plan and then go balls to the wall. 24 doesn't deserve a "let's just change the last 5 minutes of the final episode" type of closure.

If they do a prequel movie I'd like to see it revolve around The season one "Operation Nightfall". That way we can see the return of David Palmer and other dead characters. Victor Drazen was an interesting villain I wanted to see more of and we can finally see what went down that night.

My season pass list is shrinking quite a bit for next year(half dozen shows to be exact):

Lost
24
Scrubs
Better off Ted
Heroes

Of course it has, they've replaced kick-ass Jack with touchy-feely PC Jack. The annoying and irrelevant subplots don't help either.

I was pretty psyched about this season after 7. However, I found myself half paying attention during the last couple of episodes. The writing doesn't seem nearly as good and the plot seems very unoriginal.

rotfl Writers on 24 having things planned out more than two episodes in advance -- that's hilarious, man.
