I can't stand Big Mike and his holier than thou attitude. He's a bit full of himself.
I'm also sick of hearing about Andrew and the Paula Abdul song. It's over.
He sang it once and it's over. Get over it already. Give the guy a break and let it go.

Kara crying oh brother. I think she was crying more from when Simon called her out and said her statement was rubbish. I do think Mike did a great job. This show is going to miss Simon when he is gone.

Didn't really care for most of the performances tonight. Would like for it to be possible to eliminate three guys and one girl tomorrow.
Just read that the theme for next week will be
which should be interesting.

The trouble with Andrew is that he did the Paula song so well that everyone expects him to match it, which he hasn't. He did seem to be really reaching for it with the Christina song. That song did not lend itself to a male singer and was poorly done.
I completely disagreed with Simon when he called Kara's point rubbish. A 16 year old singing about a man on the road calling his children to say goodnight? It doesn't work on any level. It isn't just about singing the words correctly and keeping to the tune, it's about feeling the song.
And for another week, Ellen was useless.

Tim Dewyze - same ol' same ol' from Lee, but might be too forgettable in the opening anti-pimp spot this week.
Alex Lambert - same ol' lack of performing confidence from Alex, but his X factor is an instantly recognizable voice.
Tim Urban - needs to ditch the guitar because he looks like he has problems chewing gum and walking a straight line, though he provided an earnest performance.
Andrew Garcia - one trick pony, might be in trouble this week.
Casey James - goat boy did little to impress me, not a recording artist at all.
Aaron Kelly - makes singing look so hard to do, kinda all over the map vocally. He might sound better after puberty.
Toddrick Hall - also has a revival-esque voice, not a record artist's voice.
Michael Lynche - couldn't wait for this song to end, didn't get the love the judges fluffed up Michael's way, his falsetto isn't all that great, and he's the biggest guy who sings with so little vocal presence with that particular song.

Haven't you received the memo? It's only a valid point when HE makes it.
How many times have we heard him say that exact thing to someone?
As for Ellen, I can take her or leave her... then again... I honestly don't think we need any of them. They say the same thing each week. They hear every song differently than we hear it.. the real kicker is when Simon comes back the next night and says that he listened to it at home and it sounded either much better and he has to humbly apologize or take back any praise he gave the night before.

I understand that the audience's perception might be different because it's easier to picture an older guy in the 'father' role (although the 16-year-old could also have a couple of kids), but that doesn't have anything to do with "feeling" the song.
Some sixteen-year-old guys have experience severe love pangs and the pain of separation & could relate to that part of the song. My point is that, over the years, many confirmed bachelor superstars have sung impassioned love songs to wives, children, etc., and the audience seemed to be able to forget that the singer was actually quite a playa and had never demonstrated the least inclination to settle down in anything resembling a monogamous lifestyle. Likewise, movie audiences can buy actors who play loving husbands & fathers even thought they act like satyrs in their tabloid exploits.
I think that Kara & the other judges are still trying to push all of the teen contestants into singing poppish fluff that they think represents everyone in the contestant's age group listens to...Miley Cyrus, High School Musical, Jonas Brothers, etc. One of my favorite moments this season was when Randy asked the teen girl what artists under 20 she listened to, and she drew a blank. That may have been just nerves, but I'd like to think that maybe it accurately reflects the bizarre notion that many 17-year-olds have moved on from the teen crap that permeates the Top 40. Think what you were listening to when you were 17. Was it something like "Oops! I Did It Again" or more along the lines of the Doors?
Of course, the teens could bust out with a profane rap ditty that many of their age group have loaded on their iPods. Maybe that would shut up the judges.
Just sayin'.

Ellen: "You're adorable."
Kara: "Who are you? We're still waiting for the artist we fell in love with."
Simon: "Sorry".
Cowell did make a pertinent point when he said that he & the other judges were probably confusing the contestants more than offering any useful advice.
The "judges" spend most of their time elaborating on the contestants' looks, criticizing the pitch problems yet concluding that the performance was "great", or cutting up with each other like middle school kids on a field trip. Their sole role seems to be to act as filler in order to justify the running time to allow for more commercials. Less 'judges' would mean more running time for the songs...which could be a mixed blessing.

Is Vote For the Worst coming into play at all with the guys? Or does it make much difference since it's kind of a tossup for the worst male?
Just went back & read some of the later comments about the girls. Crystal dominated about 95% of the discussion (except for several remarks about Lacey's seduction of the camera).
Aside from noting Lilly's weird facial tics when she sings, did it strike anyone else as odd that the judges praised her for making Patsy Cline sound current? I thought the arrangement sounded straight out of the fifties...tinkly piano, upright bass, the Jordanaires singing backup, the whole nine yards. It sounded about as much "non-current" as I can imagine.

And yet Kara completely negates her own point just 2 singers later when she lauded Big Mike for singing about "his wife and what he has gone through" (experiencing his wife's child birth from Hollywood apparently). And as a woman "who doesn't have a child" she could relate to it so much to the point of bursting out in tears. FAIL.

I think we say goodbye to:
1) Katie Stevens
2) Paige Miles
3) Andrew Garcia
4) Aaron Kelly
I would love to see Todderick go but after the judge's lovefest he'll probably stay.

I'm with you. I hate saying it, but he makes David Cook look like a musical genius. I'm still waiting for him to hit anything on pitch, or even close to pitch. He's the worst technical singer on that show right now, and they keep praising him for it. That Nickelback shit is so played out, boring and useless. I've listened to people that don't sing, jokingly break into a passable Nickelback, underbite drawl. It's so fucking talentless and easy.
