It's pretty obvious that Rousseau is the mother.

No, he found the casket sans body. He tore up the casket because, once again, his father couldn't be bothered to be easily found.
Jack followed his father's apparition. He knew his father was dead. When he found the casket, he expected logic/science to return and see the body. Body gone = Man of Science disturbed. He flipped out. |

I havent been hooked this season so far. There really hasnt been any OMG moments, and I dont know if I like where they are going, so far its not interesting. I do like the Flashback scenes this season though.

Re: Lost -- "Lighthouse" -- 02.23.10
I don't think Christian was ever Smokey. If he was we would've seen the corpse by now. Plus, the fact that Jack saw him in L.A. I don't think Smokey can leave the island. It has to stay there and protect it. Christian also told Locke, "say hello to my son," which implies that he's some form of Christian.
If Jack finds his dad's body in 2007 and it is decomposed then he was never Smokey. If his corpse still looks fresh then Smokey just left it and went into Locke. |

Maybe one reason Jacob would want Locke's body back on the island would just be to expose MiB's deception. Unrelated to that, the only scene I really disliked in this episode was Jack and Hurley just happening to run into Kate. By necessity, I've pretty much come to believe that there are very few coincidences on the island, but this meeting seemed to be pushing it and served no significant purpose at all other than saying "Hi. We're going this way. See ya". |

Yep.. I think its irrelevant who the mother is and we will never find out. The fact he has a son is the main factor here in the NC timeline.

Did you forget that Smokey dressed as John Locke walked right passed real John Locke's corpse on the beach?

I disagree. I think the mother will be a major reveal, complete the the requisite "Are you fucking SHOCKED?" reveal message. Like when Dogen turned around at the piano recital.

I'm still waiting for Clancy Brown and Samantha Mathis to show back up.

I woke up early this morning and had trouble falling back to sleep and was thinking of Lost and something weird popped into my head. Remember back when Rosseau is telling her story about when Alex was taken from her? She mentions the black smoke. Later when the others come, we see black smoke in the sky, but it's not smokey it's a certain plant being burned. Going along with what others have posted, is it possible that the black smoke Rosseau saw was smokey coming to "infect" her (however that's possible if she was still alive)? I know we Alex being taken in one of Ben's flashbacks but my memory is hazy on the specifics of that scene (other than he was supposed to kill her but didn't) so I could just be grasping at straws. |
Re: Lost -- "Lighthouse" -- 02.23.10
I'm enjoying this season a lot more than the last one. Season five was all plot, plot, plot, with characters running in and out and doing whatever was needed to move the story in the direction the writers wanted it to go, regardless of whether or not it was in character for them. This season, so far, has returned to Lost tradition with a lot of character-centric moments and hasn't been breathlessly paced, which I prefer.

At least it wasn't Ben this time. |

What I was trying to say was: If Smokey was Christian since 2004 then his body (wherever it is) should be decomposing just like Locke's is now. If there is no body then he was never Smokey. At the donkey wheel, he said his name was Christian and "say hello to my son." That's pretty specific for this story. |
