Sh*t My Dad Says (Shatner)
William Shatner in Shit My Dad Says
Twitter sensation turned into TV pilot for CBS
By Nellie Andreeva
Feb 19, 2010, 12:03 PM ET
Twitter sensation Shit My Dad Says is becoming a TV pilot with William Shatner set to play the larger-than-life dad at the center of it.
The casting of Shatner lifts the contingency on CBS' multicamera family comedy project based on the Twitter account, which has enlisted more than 1.16 million followers since launching in August and has made its creator, Justin Halpern, an Internet star.
The pilot, executive produced by "Will & Grace" creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, was originally set up at CBS with a script commitment in November. Now, with Shatner on board, it has been greenlighted to pilot.
Halpern co-penned the script with Patrick Schumacker. Halpern and Schumacker co-exec produce the Warner Bros. TV-produced project.
Halpern, 29, had moved back in with his parents in San Diego, and on Aug. 3 he launched Shit My Dad Says, a Twitter feed featuring colorful -- often profane -- comments made by his 73-year-old father during their daily conversations.
Shatner most recently starred on ABC's legal dramedy "Boston Legal," winning an Emmy for playing Denny Crane.
He also won an Emmy for playing the character in a guest tint to "Boston Legal's" predecessor, "The Practice."

Has it been established whether the dad knows about the twitter feed? It not, he's bound to hear of the TV deal...

“Might not do a damn bit of good, but tell people to donate to Haiti on your twitter thing.”
TEXT “Haiti” to 90999 to donate $10
And
"Remember this: you’re just a lucky fucking guy. If people start telling you your dick looks bigger, remember that it’s not."

I think this actually has a chance to be pretty good.
I admit that I'm a lifelong Trekker, but never really thought of the Shat being able to carry a modern show. But I recently saw some Boston Legal, and he was actually pretty darn good in that.
And the creators of Will & Grace being involved is a big plus, that show was quality for awhile.

If there is somebody who could pull this off, it's Shatner. I'd really rather have the FX version of this than the CBS one, though. I think they'll limit how funny this can be by limiting how foul the show can be.

Ryan Devlin joins 'Shit My Dad Says'
Actor will star opposite William Shatner in CBS comedy pilot
By Nellie Andreeva
March 3, 2010, 11:00 PM ET
Ryan Devlin has landed the young lead opposite William Shatner in CBS' comedy pilot "Shit My Dad Says."
"Shit," based on the popular Twitter account, centers on the relationship between a guy (Devlin) and his opinionated dad (Shatner).
Twitter star Justin Halpern, on whom the character is based, co-wrote the script with Peter Schumacher, with "Will & Grace" creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick executive producing.
Veteran sitcom helmer James Burrows is directing the pilot, which co-stars Nicole Sullivan as the Devlin's sister-in-law.
Devlin, who is recurring on ABC's "Cougar Town," is repped by Gersh and Grant Management.

Under a different network, basically any cable channel, this could be a brilliant idea. 30 minutes of Shatner running on all cylinders with little-to-no censorship? It'll be pure comedy intolerance... and I'm okay with that.

Re: Sh*t My Dad Says (Shatner)
i have been following him on twitter since October. i am rooting for this to work, but so much of what is funny requires some profanity. i dont get how they are going to pull this off.
