I've not watched Smallville very much, so bear with me.

I recently caught a rerun from last spring, about a magic comic book. In that episode, Clark uses x-ray vision to find the comic. Zatanna remarks "that's game changing", as if that were a new power.

I'm catching the series from the beginning on HDNET. In episode 4 of season 1, Clark's x-ray vision is already beginning, albeit somewhat unreliable at that point.

Since Clark has obviously had x-ray vision for years, starting long before he met Zatanna, why is she surprised when he uses it? Continuity error?

That was a brand spanking new episode.

Zatanna is aware of Clark possessing super powers, but she doesn't know what all of them are.

She likely even made the comment because it could be a naughty power.

I confused it with the rerun I saw, which also featured Zatanna. Oops.
That's probably it. Looking at the episode again she says "I always knew you were packing some firepower under the time(?), but looking through walls? That's a showstopper". Zatanna definitely doesn't say "all this time", which would have made more sense.

Yeah, she said showstopper, not game changer.


She's in magical theater and speaks in theater terms. A "showstopper" in an act is like a big highlight of the show.

So, all she really said is "That's a highlight" or more simply "That's cool"

This thing's been on for ten years. Is he Superman yet?

No. He is "the red-blue-blur". I'm not kidding. That's what they call him in The Daily Planet articles.

It's just 'the Blur' now.

Which is so much more dignified.

Given his monochromatic attire, they could have called him "The Smudge". Which is, you know, worse.

What irks me is that he still doesn't fly unless brainwashed by Jor-El or having wet dreams about Lana.

It seems like they don't want him to become Superman, until the series comes (or is coming) to an end, and The CW keeps renewing the show.

Smallville and continuity don't belong in the same sentence.

I think it has continuity with itself. However, when trying to fit it with other Superman series, it goes out the window.

I'm still trying to figure out how they will get Lex back and not have him know about Clark.
