"Diff'rent Strokes" should be remade - but not as a comedy

I think the essential premise of the show - rich white man adopts two black children - had a lot of potential for more than just a "coming-of-age sitcom," and it sure fell flat and morphed into The Gary Coleman Show.

I think, if remade as a drama, the situations of resentment (Willis), carefree (Arnold), and presumptuous (Kimberly) can be a great mix for a "good man" who takes on more than he can chew with two black children from Harlem. #1 - you have his preteen daughter the same age as the preteen Willis, a troubled, bitter kid who resents Mr. Drummond, resents his parents dying, resents everything, and will probably take it out on Mr. Drummond's white-bread daughter. Is Willis prejudice? Sure is. Militant? Worse than Michael Evans. Arnold can be his voice of conscience for only so long, as Arnold is only a little boy, and has no control over the wayward and out-of-control Willis Jackson.

Mix it up for today. Black family adopts two white kids.

Funny that Mr. Drummond's former housekeeper was Mrs. Jackson, yet each subsequent housekeeper employed was a white woman. Wassup wit dat?

Would make sense. They can turn that episode where the Maytag guy rapes Dudley into a "gritty" feature-length film.

I think we're going to need a Diff'rent Strokes sub-forum.

^ At least not ON camera. Who knows what kind of jungle fever was going on behind the sets. We had Brady siblings getting it on, and Saved By The Bell students getting high and porking...why not Kimberly and Willis?

Older white women can't stick him with their orphaned children.

Except that this time, Dudley is murdered, and watches the people on Earth from "the in-between."
