after a creative resurgence last year, i'm finding this year pretty boring. unless things pick up, i won't be sad to see this show end after this season.

I do have to say that bringing back CTU into the show has been a major disappointment. I think it would have been better if Jack/Renee were helping the NYC division of the FBI or even the NYPD.
I also have to agree with an earlier comment that they have done a poor job using New York as the backdrop for this season. Where's Times Square? Where's the Grand Central Station? CSI:NY is 90% shot in Los Angeles, but I feel like I'm watching a show in New York. At least last season I recall they went out to Washington DC for several weeks to shoot a bunch of exteriors. I haven't seen any exterior shots that even remotely look like New York.

No it's not...at this point in Season 6, things were still reasonably interesting. This season turned into a snoozefest after the assassination attempt. Russian mobsters? Come on! When do the REAL bad guys show up?!

The tunnel thing cracked me up. They researched sewer tunnels to find one leading to Vlad's secret lair, why? Just on the offchance that a CTU operative would be undercover at that location and CTU drones monitoring it from the air?

This season has felt a step back from last, but it's been OK so far.
Crazy Renee was pretty cool.
The redneck subplot needs to stop. Aside from the two morons running around calling Starbuck every 5 minutes, it's such a lame diversion from the main plot. I hate it more each week.

Good thing Renee stabbed someone 'cause I was just about to die from boredom.
Seriously could this season be anymore uninteresting.

I'm waiting on the douchy dude at CTU to present Hastings with the recorded conversations Dana's had since she has only taken her earpiece off at the end of this episode.
It was more about sneaking up on Vlad than trying to outwit CTU, those Russians have no idea of the level of involvement, if any, Vlad had with anyone other than he was asking about the rods.
Jack with no visible reaction to a knife in his gut reminded me of Schwarzenegger in Last Action Hero where he's dying and gets back into the movie world where a doctor says, "What is this some kind of a joke, I wouldn't even call this a flesh wound."

I'm finding this season to be the most boring, lazy season in the show's run so far. I don't find the villains compelling, and the writer's spent so much time killing off memorable characters over the past 8 season, there's really no "good guy" that I identify with. Jack himself seems like a supporting character to a show that feels like it has no lead.

The problem is the show has always been about Jack and that is what made it good. Now he has taken a backseat to Renee who for some reason appears to be the lead of the show this season. It makes no sense. Hopefully she is wiped out soon, so Jack can start kicking ass again solo and the true bad guy of the season is revealed.

This season is the first I've ever watched of 24, and I love it. Considering how much people here say it sucks compared to the earlier ones, I may have to start netflixing them from season 1. I assume the show was good from the beginning?
And how on earth would they do a movie? Would it be 24 hours long? Or will we have to sit through 6 movies (over 7-8 years) to get through one story?

There is no clear cut plan for the feature film. It's either going to follow the same pattern as Redemption and be Real Time over 2 hours or will be a 2 hour movie covering 24 hours without Real Time. My bet is on the latter.

I know - it's just that they didn't seem so sneaky when they were loudly plodding toward the building, making so much noise that someone who should have been more concerned with a stab wound thought that a vehicle full of CTU guys had just arrived.

Considering how everyone in the world loved Renee last year, it's no surprise she plays a major role this season again. Keifer may want to be less involved as the hero of the show and share the spotlight as he becomes more involved in the background or simply want to do other projects. We've always know Jack wasn't going to be there forever, they seem to want to pass the torch to someone else, but I'm not sure it'll be Renee, it cold be Cole.

Yeah no kidding, Renee's character is nothing like she was last season. Watch Renee be the ultimate bad guy by the end of the season and Tony and Jack will have to take her out. One can wish...

They did a TV movie in November 2008 called "24: Redemption" which was a prequel to season 7. It was in Real time and took place over 2 hours.
There is no clear cut plan for the feature film. It's either going to follow the same pattern as Redemption and be Real Time over 2 hours or will be a 2 hour movie covering 24 hours without Real Time. My bet is on the latter.

Ugh, the last few episodes have been the 24 equivalent of a video game 'fetch mission'. These sorts of "thing we gotta do to kill time before we do the thing that's actually integral to the plot" storylines are tolerable if they last an episode, but when they go on for multiple hours my interest evaporates.
It's all made worse because I don't really care about any of the concurrent storylines. The Slumdog Regis scenes aren't even remotely interesting to me. Starbuck's hillbilly boyfriend antics are pointless, albeit humorous in an absurd way.
I'm hoping it turns around, but so far they are wasting the NYC setting. Last season I felt they did a good job of utilizing the DC environment. Other than the UN stuff this might as well be LA again. I'm hoping for some Times Square action, or maybe a daring scene atop the Empire State Building.

total garbage.. fast forwarding everything but Renee.
The writers aren't even trying anymore, Jack getting knifed is barely even bothered.. even for 24 that was an incredible stretch...
with the 24 Movie in the works, looks like the writers have decided to cash out early, a really horrible boring season.

Was anybody else annoyed when Starbuck had a bluetooth headset in one ear, but held her cell phone up to the other ear? WTF?

I assume the bluetooth is for her CTU phone. She's holding up her personal cell to her ear. It's a dumb plot but she at least seems smart enough not to use the same phone for both jobs.
