Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand -- "The Red Serpent" -- 01/22/10
Agreed. My only disagreement was the blood. I didn't feel it from the beginning but I've always hated CG blood. Case in point, the scene when Spartacus saves his wife from those 5 (or so) guys trying to rape her. They all get killed in gruesome ways where blood flies all over the place (even on the camera) yet none spilled on the snow that blanketed the ground?
Add in the stupid 300-esque slow-fast motion fight scenes and I just gave up. I'll give it another shot because the chicks are cute and their boobs are present most of the time, though.

yea, the girls and their nudity might keep me watching through netflix...and they need to stream it in HD! haha

This is my first time seeing CG blood, and I have to say I'm not very fond of it. (I mean, I'm not fond of the sight of blood in general but if I had to choose...)

Not really a fan of all of the CGI blood spurting. Makes me think of Mortal Kombat.
Funny that Lucy Lawless would need a merkin. From what I recall, the Romans were into removing body hair, so a bald beaver would be historically accurate. I also sort of recall that seeing on a History Channel program that Romans didn't do oral sex, either, so the scene where Haldir the Elf went down on his wife is also an anachronism.
Speaking of merkins, in the scene where the wife drops her fur coat and is naked underneath, it sort of looked like she was flesh-colored panties with pubes sewn in them; though it might have been a tan line. Anyone with HD and a larger set confirm?

I too was not a fan of the CG blood- too cartoonish. I get the graphic/comic look and all but still. Other than that, I enjoyed it for what it was: trashy fun.

It's okay - it made me feel like I'm watching B-movie or softcore porno... I agreed about CGI blood thingy - they seems went overboard on that part. I'll keep watching it and see how it goes...

I enjoyed it (streaming through Netflix) enough to keep tuning in. Ridiculous, over-the-top, violent, lots of naked chicks. What's not to love?

Deadwood got away with it because the dialog had a certain poetry and Shakespearean quality to it.
Deadwood, this ain't.

I only made it about 10 or 15 minutes through before I gave up. I'll watch some of the episodes on Fast-Foward in the future , but this one is off the DVR.

Went into it expecting a cheesy comic book version of 300 and Gladiator with tons of gore and hot womenz and that's exactly what I got. Can't wait for the 3rd episode.

in a weird hybrid 'Gladiator' '300' 'Caligula' kind of way - but 'Caligula II' takes the cake for being more outlandish with it's bad acting and outrageous gore (old fashioned fake blood and guts) to make it cheesey, exploitative and just plain fun - something this series has yet to do (and should IMO) - for a Sam Raimi produced show it shouldn't take itself too seriousily - it's not like say... PBS' 'I, Claudius'
