They all get killed in gruesome ways where blood flies all over the place (even on the camera) yet none spilled on the snow that blanketed the ground?

Add in the stupid 300-esque slow-fast motion fight scenes and I just gave up. I'll give it another shot because the chicks are cute and their boobs are present most of the time, though.
im not a fan of cg blood either, but i liked how it was done in 300 and sin city. it started off kinda cool in this, but got boring quick.

yea, the girls and their nudity might keep me watching through netflix...and they need to stream it in HD! haha

This is my first time seeing CG blood, and I have to say I'm not very fond of it. (I mean, I'm not fond of the sight of blood in general but if I had to choose...)

Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand -- "The Red Serpent" -- 01/22/10

Not really a fan of all of the CGI blood spurting. Makes me think of Mortal Kombat.

Funny that Lucy Lawless would need a merkin. From what I recall, the Romans were into removing body hair, so a bald beaver would be historically accurate. I also sort of recall that seeing on a History Channel program that Romans didn't do oral sex, either, so the scene where Haldir the Elf went down on his wife is also an anachronism.

Speaking of merkins, in the scene where the wife drops her fur coat and is naked underneath, it sort of looked like she was flesh-colored panties with pubes sewn in them; though it might have been a tan line. Anyone with HD and a larger set confirm?

I too was not a fan of the CG blood- too cartoonish. I get the graphic/comic look and all but still. Other than that, I enjoyed it for what it was: trashy fun.

It's okay - it made me feel like I'm watching B-movie or softcore porno... I agreed about CGI blood thingy - they seems went overboard on that part. I'll keep watching it and see how it goes...

Watching this now... the dialogue is absolutely terrible. "Hold you fucking tongues!"

Ridiculous.

I enjoyed it (streaming through Netflix) enough to keep tuning in. Ridiculous, over-the-top, violent, lots of naked chicks. What's not to love?

Yeah, the swearing is a bit annoying. I don't have a problem with it, but this is a historical with classical Greeks and Romans, and I expect something more than SHIT FUCK **** SHIT FUCK **** **** FUCK FUCK SHIT **** FUCK.

Deadwood got away with it because the dialog had a certain poetry and Shakespearean quality to it.

Deadwood, this ain't.

I only made it about 10 or 15 minutes through before I gave up. I'll watch some of the episodes on Fast-Foward in the future , but this one is off the DVR.

Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand -- "The Red Serpent" -- 01/22/10

just saw this...

Amazing
Spoiler:
ly bad, god awful. this was some of the worst acting and story telling i have seen in a new series in sometime. so glad i don't have to stick around and add yet another i wouldn't have time for.

simply putrid from start to finish and if it only got greenlit because of horndogs at STARZ then i think they should all be taken out back and shot to death with fake CGI blood editted to the newscast showing the grisly, yet justified murders. won't last past this season of what 5 eps.

terrible!

Spoiler:
sorry to burst your bubble but Starz renewed this show for season 2 before the premiere of the first episode.
Spartacus renewed for a second season

I thought it was just ok. I didn't mind too much the CG background with the Spartacus and his wife since those parts were flashbacks but the CG blood got a bit annoying.

That pretty much summed up my thoughts as well. It felt like a parody of 300. And really, after reading this thread I was expecting a lot more naked women. Disappointed on all fronts.

Yeah, from what people were saying I was expecting Sin City meets Caligula.

300 + Rome = Spartacus.

Lucy Lawless as Lucretia is the Poor Man's Atia of the Julii.

Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand -- "The Red Serpent" -- 01/22/10

Went into it expecting a cheesy comic book version of 300 and Gladiator with tons of gore and hot womenz and that's exactly what I got. Can't wait for the 3rd episode.

The episode would have been 30 minutes long had they cut out the slo-mo.

in a weird hybrid 'Gladiator' '300' 'Caligula' kind of way - but 'Caligula II' takes the cake for being more outlandish with it's bad acting and outrageous gore (old fashioned fake blood and guts) to make it cheesey, exploitative and just plain fun - something this series has yet to do (and should IMO) - for a Sam Raimi produced show it shouldn't take itself too seriousily - it's not like say... PBS' 'I, Claudius'
