The Deep End -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 01/21/10

The Deep End

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Five first-year law associates struggle to succeed at a prestigious firm. In the pilot, Dylan (Matt Long) is assigned to a nearly impossible pro-bono case; and Addy (Tina Majorino) makes an impression on her boss when she speaks her mind. Meanwhile, Beth allows a 90-year-old man to mistake her for his daughter; Liam lies to try to sign a client; and Malcolm's hiring circumvents the firm's traditional process.

Starring:
Matt Long (Jack and Bobby)
Billy Zane
Tina Marjorino
Clancy Brown

7 episode series. My DVR is recording the Saturday re-air. I'll try this at least once.

Also Leah Pipes, from CW short-lived Life Is Wild. She is a very talented actress. I am pretty certain we will be seeing a lot more of her in TV and movies.

Matt Long got a bad rap from Ghost Rider, but he is really a solid actor. His portrayal of the brooding but loyal brother on Jack & Bobby gave the show its depth.

Someday we will look back on Tina Marjorino's career and be amazed at all the memorable characters she has created.

The Zane .. nuff said.

If they don't make this into a Grey's Anatomy in a law office, it could be a good watch. Maybe a good Eli Stone replacement. Cast is very strong.

The previews make this show look EXACTLY like Grey's Anatomy at a lawfirm. I've got it set to record, but I'm keeping my expectations very low.

All over it just for Tina Marjorino. Only 6 episodes?

Correction 7 episodes were produced. I think they purposely pushed FlashForward back to March so they could free up this timeslot for The Deep End.

I am a fan of a certain hot red head from Twilight and What about Brian who will have a recurring role on this show:

I don't know about this. I hope they actually delve into legal cases instead of making this Grey's Anatomy for Lawyers because last night's episode was rather light. They could have picked some better looking chicks to play the associates.

Got a 1.8 yesterday....consider this show dead. It'll be lucky to air out it's entire run.

I always enjoy seeing The Kurgan on TV. Shame it will be so short-lived.

I thought this show was light, but enjoyable. I immediately liked the characters and the concept, which is a lot more than I can say about Human Target.

I did think that "ladies man" character was mis-cast. He is not that attractive and has beady eyes.

Re: The Deep End -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 01/21/10

Not bad ... not so good. Too much cutesy bullshit.

50% Eli Stone. Patriarchal legal construct. Evil corporation vs the people. Episodic legal cases.

50% Grey's Anatomy. Everyone is way to clever for their own good. Sleeping around and around. Pretentious dialog.

Tom Amandes (Harold Abbot on Everwood) playing a similar hard nosed lawyer as he did on Eli Stone. He played the blond lawyers father. This guy us a great character actor and I hope he ends up as a recurring character.

Just as a side note, I couldn't help but notice the similarity between Rachelle Lefevre and Matt longs love interest on Jack & Bobby, Jessica Paré. They even have a similar lisp.

Thought this was entertaining though not great. I'll stick around for a couple more episodes and see how it develops.
