Fringe -- "Unearthed" -- 01/11/10 -- Special Night

Fringe

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
The Division is perplexed by a case involving a teen girl who, after being taken off life support and prepped for organ donation, miraculously awakens, with a newfound ability to speak Russian and knowledge of classified military information.

This is a special stand alone unaired episode that was shot last season. And No this is not on the season 1 DVD.

A new episode will also air on Thursday in it's regular timeslot.

Re: Fringe -- "Unearthed" -- 01/11/10 -- Special Night

I think scheduling was the main reason. They didn't have enough time.

Only 20 episodes aired last season even though FOX ordered 22. But, the Pilot was considered 2 episodes, so this extra episode, which is technically episode 22 from last season, was produced under last season's production budget. But, this episode was written as a standalone.

The good thing about this is we now have 23 episodes for season 2.

Some say it's a marketing ploy to tie-in with the "alternate universe" element of the show, though I think that is a stretch. Anything is possible I suppose.

I looked at Tivo and it said episode 121 so I was about to cancel the recording but I read the description and it didn't sound familiar. Then I remember reading something here about it a few weeks ago.

More Fringe isn't a bad thing IMO so I welcome it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is also an experiment on Fox's behalf to see if Fringe's third season may be moved to this time slot after 24 is done.

why the hell even bother airing this. for fans, it's totally out of sequence and since the show only seems to be watched by fans.

Dude, it's an extra episode for fan's of the show. And your a fan right? So why complain?

BTW, this episode did pretty well. 7.79M viewers and 2.8 in the demos. Maybe this timeslot could be a future home for Fringe after 24 ends after all.

i got the impression that they put it there to see how it does in the ratings, in essence to gain more fans. if you don't know what the show is about, you won't get all the glaring continuity issues.

I wonder why they didn't air it originally and where they would have put it.

Honestly, I thought it was better than many of the season 1 episodes.

They aired it for fans of Oz. 4 characters in on episode. It made me feel like I was watching Dexter.

Well, I certainly kept wondering why Agent Frances wasn't dead.

Maybe that's why this episode was titled "Unearthed"

Re: Fringe -- "Unearthed" -- 01/11/10 -- Special Night

Experiment is a definite possibility. I'm sure there will be numerous rerun weeks this season that they could have run it in, though that could have been even more confusing for continuity if it was on the regular night in the middle of new episodes.

I enjoyed the episode. I think they should've had one of the main actors do a very quick explanation before it aired, though ... I'm sure some regular viewers were confused if they hadn't read online about the this being from the previous season.

I noticed that the guy who killed the husband was named "Jake Sully". Clearly, a blatant attempt to cash in on the popularity of Avatar.

Solid standalone - though it was unsettling to see Charlie again.
I liked his character.

I eagerly look forward to the rest of this season....

Which one did I miss? I got Lance Reddick (Desmond Mobay), Kirk Acevedo (Miguel Alvarez) and Scott Winters (Cyril O'Reily).

The priest was the religious kid who led the attack on Luke Perry's character.

I missed that guy also. It was a ozfest reunion on fringe.

Kind of agree with what someone else said. They should have put a explanation of some kind at the beginning. If I thought they were randomly playing episodes out of order or at different times I would probably just wait for the dvd instead. It was also kind of odd because this was a fairly good episode. Kind of weird not to play it last season.
