And the Rita Scandal wasn't blown off. Dexter punched the dude. Rita wanted Dexter to react, and he did exactly like she wanted. I don't think it is resolved though (not that it should), Rita and Dexter will always have issue.

I think the intention was for the episode to feel too cramped, that is Dexter's life at the moment.

Yeah, I thought of that and I totally get it, but there's losing focus and then there's just ridiculous. Letting Trinity trail him is beyond losing focus but I guess I can roll with it.

The Rita thing was the equivalent of smoking on a space ship and throwing in a line about "glad we invented that device that lets us smoke in space". (what movie was that in?) Even for a TV relationship that was crap writing.

It just wasn't a satisfying wrap up to all the minor story lines. Hopefully the season finale will fix that. I haven't been disappointed yet.

Great episode. Been a crazy season so far.

I wouldn't be surprised if they killed Laguerta in the finale, mostly because

Spoiler:
She died at the hands of Brian in the first book in the series

Her character has had by far the most boring plot lines in the entire series. Her absence definitely won't be felt if her character isn't around.

You could say that for pretty much any female character on the show. I personally wouldn't mind any of them taking the dirt nap.

There's like 5 minutes of clips from the finale on Youtube. It's pretty spoiler heavy though so watch at your own risk!

Can't wait until Sunday!

If next season is the last one I can see they keeping Arthur in the show...

I'll give you that. Besides Deb and Lila, female characters that have shown up in the series haven't been written all that well.

As much as I hate Rita, she does have a very basic purpose in the plotlines.

My problem with Laguerta is that the writers have tried many times over the last 4 seasons to make her interesting (going from crazy boss, to home wrecker, etc etc) but ultimately failed at doing so.

I think if they keep the enjoyable characters from the "gang" (Vince, Deb, Quinn, Angel) the show will continue to work fine.

As Howiefan mentioned, Finale preview is up:

Quinn is the most useless character on the show. I haven't cared about anything he's said or done since he was introduced. Not to discredit the actor, however, he does a good job.

I'm going to spoiler this, not because I know anything for sure, but it references the previews among other things:

Spoiler:
Right now I'm almost certain that Dexter is going to get "caught" in some capacity. In the preview, it looks like he's getting thrown to the ground by a few police officers. Also, in an interview with Jennifer Carpenter, she mentioned "everyone" having to be there for the finale and that everyone matters. I think it'll end with the police/FBI going in to get Arthur but finding Dexter with Arthur "on the table." Either that or Dexter is going to completely abandon his family in order to evade capture. I can't see the show working all that well with Dexter being on Death Row, so I think he's going to be on the run instead, leaving everything behind in order to be free.

best show on tv,I hope it last more then the 5 years. I can`t think of any show currently on that can compare to this quality wise.

Breaking Bad
Mad Men
Damages

Dexter is fun and one of my favorites, but I think those 3 all beat Dexter quality wise.

I'd put Sons of Anarchy up there, too, even though this season's finale was a tad all over the place. I also think Damages had a huge dropoff in quality in the 2nd season.

never watched Damages but love Madmen and Sons of Anarchy. In fact those are the only tv shows I watch when I have time dvr style.

I like him though, and looks like they are setting him up as the next Doakes. Which is a dynamic the show does need back. I think the actor can pull off that antagonism really well (although Erik King will never be matched, but they don't need to duplicate him just fill that role).

The main Dexter / Arthur storyline has been a blast this year, I agree that pretty much all of the subplots have fallen kind of flat, other than the reporter turning out to be Arthur's daughter. Which I guess isn't THAT great, but it was a nice twist.

Remember when Angel got stabbed in Season 1? I actually cared enough about him to hope he survived back then. Now... not so sure.

Here's my thoughts on the series.. I don't think they ever got back to the same dynamic as the first season. The ice truck killer being Dexter's brother and wanting to connect with him... was just amazing.

The 2nd season with Doakes and Lundy on Dexter's case... very close to season 1 quality. Dexter avoiding getting caught made for a fun season.

The 3rd season... Dexter needed a friend. Meh.

The 4th season... Dexter meets a serial killer just like him. Good... better than the previous season.

I just think there's so much they could explore. How about answering these questions: Who is Dexter's real father? Are his homicidal tendencies "born in blood" or genetic? What would happen if Deb found out?

I guess I just want to see Dexter go back to basics. I really thought Dexter killing an innocent man would be the end of him. He obviously doesn't live 100% by his code.

The cool thing about Doakes was that he wasn't actually wrong about Dexter, and he wasn't really a bad guy. Even though Dexter is the (anti)hero, he was still a sympathetic antagonist.

Quinn's a crook and kind of an asshole, so he isn't as sympathetic as Doakes.

They answered both of these questions season one.

Season one is a one shot deal, impossible to repeat. I felt the other seasons were almost all as good, but falter in various ways. I think skinner being a weak serial killer hurt season 3 the most. And LaGuerta always being such an awful character doesn't help any of the seasons, but only became apparent from season 2 on.

Yeah, I was going to create this great theory that somehow Arthur was Dexter's dad and that was going to be the big reveal in the season finale but then I checked Wikipedia... :(

Yeah, but there was only one quick shot of Dexter seeing him in the car. I know about the house and inheritance. I thought they could've elaborated that more.

Also add that Season 1 follows the 1st book in the series to the teeth (minus one big difference). Seasons 2-4 have the TV writers trying their hand at differentiating themselves from the book storylines.

Season 2 took Doakes being mega suspicious (and trailing) of Dexter from the 2nd book, but everything else is different.

As for Deb finding out...

Spoiler:
The Season 4 finale hints that Deb finds out who Laura Moser is and the newspaper clipping mentions "Survived by Brian and Dexter Moser". She asks Dexter if Laura's name rings a bell.

Thing is I believe Brian's last name is never mentioned by Miami Homicide, as he probably never used his real last name around Deb.

Semi Major Spoilers, although I don't think this will be the big shock we get on Sunday.

Spoiler:
In some new clips released Deb asks Dexter is he knows who Laura Moser is, he says no, and then she tells him its his mother. In a second clip one of Harry's CI's takes her to Mosers house, and its the same house Brian (Ice Truck Killer) took her after he kid napped her. She remembers Brians last name and looks all shocked, then the clip ends.
