I wonder what shows will get affected by this.

Very interesting.

I doubt many current shows will be affected all that much. Even according to the article, it'll take a year or more to finalize everything.

If nothing else, it may help shows like The Office which are often DVR'd as Comcast has a stake in that. Eventually, I'd think more shows will be offered online, etc, but we're already going that way. Still, very interesting.

So, Comcast failed to buy us 4 years ago and now they have a down and out NBC?

I think the best comment I read about this was (paraphrasing):

"Comcast doesn't have the money to update its infrastructure to allow more than 250GB of downloads per month, but they have the money to buy NBC?"

Did they buy any other Sheinhardt subsidiaries?

Does this mean Jack Donaghy will no longer be affiliated with GE?

Are we going to have to start worrying about Comcast withholding NBC from rival satellite/telco providers now?

That was the first thing that popped into my head. 30 Rock will definitely be "affected".

That's what I'm wondering as well.

I doubt they'd withhold it, but I'd wager they'd try to charge more for rivals to carry it... were NBC not way down low in 4th place. They have no leverage considering they only have 2 hours of real programming (none of it "must see" ratings-wise) a night and Jay Leno.

I'd be interested to see if the Leno thing continues in light of this change...

Interestingly enough all NBC shows are now free on Comcast OnDemand. Before they were $0.99 for SD episodes and $1.99 for HD.

I hope Comcast doesn't take the same approach it did when it bought TechTV and transform NBC into G4.

It's also a good thing (at least, for those of us with DirecTV) that the Friday Night Lights deal with NBC was done for 2 years.

I hated Comcast for that, thanks for the heads up!

Note to self. Remove The Office/Community/Parks & Rec from the DVR list.

I wonder how and when this will effect Hulu.

Not happy at all with this; a major content provider should never be allowed to own a broadcast network, let alone the multitude of cable channels that NBC Universal brings.

I agree they don't have leverage to withold NBC from their rivals. I also wonder if the primetime Leno show will continue.

Without GE's huge financial interest in green products and technology, I wonder if NBC will still have its silly Green Weeks.

Leno has a 2 year deal and NBC does not have enough crap to fill 5 more hours of programming next year.

Re: Comcast's deal to buy NBC is finalized; will be announced Thursday.

This is a real boon to 30 Rock. I felt they kind of lost the corporate angle this season with the relatively weak bailout storyline, but the corporate part will be back with a vengeance now. I'm guessing the wig company will be gone, Jack will be sold to the new owners (which will have some whacky backstory of their own) and will resent but come to love his new situation.

I am not sure I like the idea of Comcast owning NBC, but it actually sounds better to me than GE owning it. I was always hoping Vivendi would buy them out. I think the quality of the programming will increase. Hopefully, they clean house and bring in decent execs. I'd like to see them give Kevin Reilly another chance if he washes out at Fox.

As far as Leno goes, they have to find a way to tweak the formula. Perhaps trim it to Tuesday through Thursday?

It's funny that many of us thought about the same thing when we heard the news about this deal. How will it affect 30 Rock?

Personally I don't have the hate for Comcast that many do, but that's only because they aren't in my area. I think in terms of synergy (if you buy into that shit), having Comcast as an owner is certainly better for NBC in that now they have a product to stand behind. If it sucks, they look back. If it's good, they look good and make more money. Hopefully it brings NBC back to the glory days with good TV.

I'm with you. I already can't get Versus because of a Comcast/DirecTV pissing match. The last thing I want is Comcast having control of more channels.

Re: Comcast's deal to buy NBC is finalized; will be announced Thursday.

Honestly, dealing with Comcast makes me more comfortable that they are the ones who bought them. I'm now a former Comcast subscriber because I moved to a place with a tiny cable company just recently, but I can avow that Comcast is better than Adelphia (so glad they're gone) or Cox were.
