Re: Sons of Anarchy -- "Na Trioblidi" -- 90 minute Season Finale
Overall I like the show, but this episode was so full of nonsense that it took me out of the moment
Zoebelle's daughter, who is on the SOA wanted list, takes off without any security, driving a truck that says NAZI STOGIES AND TOBACCO, and she thinks anything good will come of this. It isn't like she is using some sort of clever disguise letting her hair grow a little, and losing the platinum color. Gemma saw her earlier in the season, she gave chase, and yet she takes off to see her man, not six towns over, but in the same small community. Driving a truck that SAYS Nazi Stogies. I guess she didn't have time to throw a parade together, or pick up that neon flashing sign.
Zoebelle, trapped in a store and seeing SOA camped outside, doesn't start yelling for the people inside to call 911, doesn't call 911 himself, and does nothing to draw attention or create witnesses. He just stands there in the cupcake aisle, pondering ho hos and little Debbie's while looking forlorn.
Tara, who has been shown to be packing a snubbie for most of the latter episodes, watches the Irishman jig half sack but does nothing. She has already shown the ability to shoot someone when needed (Dutch), but now decides it is better for the plot advancement to stand there wigging out.
All holy war is breaking out, and the two best people to go out of the compound and get supplies? The president and VP of the club's women. Not some throwaway hangers on, not low level chicks or dudes, but the two best pieces of hostage fodder available. And oh yeah, let's take the VP's baby son. And let's do it unarmed, with no backup or guards aside from a guy who isn't even a member yet. guy. singular. When the number of people to be guarded exceeds the number of guards, there is some piss poor planning.
Wait, let's ride around with AK's and shotguns on our bikes. Through town. Who cares if we are felons, and uh not supposed to be able to carry guns. Hey, let's pull out guns, in front of tons of LEO's when we have our parlay and tet a tet. Ut isn't like we were up on GUNS charges three episodes ago or anything.
When engaging in a moving rolling gunfight, let's make sure we have members of our side in the line of fire. After the marksmanship displayed in "patch over" and how everyone shot the shit out of everything, but hit nothing, it makes great sense to be downrange of people shooing. Actually considering how badly they shoot, being in front of their guns may be the safest place.
The only thing that worked. The old C*nt punch on Stahl. That needs to be a GIF, like yesterday.

I agree with this and the other posts about the ridiculous plot points.

yeah, this episode was laaaaaaaaaaame.
You're a minute from killing Zobelle, and you just up and leave... I mean, really...
Zobelle's daughter had a great rack. Sniff.

Here is the spoilerized version of the interview Mr. X posted. I put the whole thing in a spoiler tag for length and then tagged the individual spoilers inside.

The Zobelle thing doesn't bug me too much. In my mind, I am convinced that unlike Jax who was content to just kill his mark, Clay really wanted to make him suffer. He wanted to personally kill him and enjoy it. He could have either blown off Jax and done that or left Zobelle for another day and dealt with his grandson being missing.
I will say that you guys have ruined the Stahl plotline for me in a major way. Nice job of driving a Mack truck right through that one on so many levels.

From the talkback on http://sepinwall.blogspot.com/2009/1...eason-two.html Sepinwall posts "3rd-season renewal is official, and Kurt has signed a 2-year extension, so a fourth season is probable, barring some unexpected ratings collapse when the show returns next September."

Wow, here I was thinking I was enjoying a scripted show, only to realize that apparently I was watching a documentary. Or, at least something everybody else thought was a documentary? Maybe I'm easily satisfied, or too stupid to get sucked out of the experience because of a few inconsistencies, or maybe you all are taking this just a little too seriously. It's a television show. Go watch the History channel.

What an amazing hour of TV
Loved Westin and Polly's deaths
In some ways i'm glad the Sons suffered some casualties because they did inflict a lot of death. That ATF lady is an evil one. She is definitely gonna get hers next season
This was one of the best seasons of TV i have ever seen and Season 3 is set up to be a corker with Zorbelle still on the loose and with a dead daughter to motivate him. The Porn director who murdered Luane still out there, the Irish and the ATF lady.
Man i love this show

A part of me wonders if there was pressure from the network to make some changes to the finale at the last minute. That's the only explanation I could have for Sutter putting out such a sloppy, contrived script. He did just get a two-year contract extension and renewed for a third season following that brutally awful finale. Maybe he sold out to keep the show going. Can't say I would blame him.

Sold out to get a renewal? FX has no track record I am aware of when it comes to meddling. This show was beating Leno in the ratings. No, I think that's way too far out there.
I think this is honestly just the level at which Sutter works. I don't think he's quite at the Shawn Ryan level of awesome when it comes to making a show. 90% of his stuff is great, but there have been other signs of plot points that weren't well thought out before this. I also think the way the Stahl segment went wrong shows it was problems at a fundamental level. Take for instance the blanks -- that would have been a lot easier to take if the guy hadn't taken the magazine out of the firearm and checked it. If he had just grabbed the gun, it would have been so much easier to accept that they switched it on him.
I enjoy the show, but it is what it is. These to me are not anywhere close to fatal flaws.

There's got to be some sort of an explanation for that finale. Sure, Sutter is no Shawn Ryan or David Simon, but he is a WAY better writer than that finale indicated.

Re: Sons of Anarchy -- "Na Trioblidi" -- 90 minute Season Finale
It seems like Sutter was more concerned with setting up Season 3 - Gemma on the run, Abel kidnapped, Stahl going rogue, Zobelle on the run - than giving us a well-crafted finale.

I think you could be right on the mark there. Unfortunately for me, I have ZERO interest in watching any of those storylines unfold next season. I cannot believe how annoyed I am with this show after watching this finale.

Zoebelle got away because he always gets away... Hes a smarmy individual who will always be "safe". Sure the Stahl stuff is a stretch, but they have to have the "bad" good guy. Thing is, no one makes for a better ass kicking than her. Last year she got the shit kicked out of her, and this year the c*nt punch. I think Sutter keeps her around just to see how they can fuck her up the next time.

Here's a great Q&A with Sutter about the season
http://sepinwall.blogspot.com/2009/1...eason-two.html
He says they killed off Sack because the actor wanted out of his contract
There are some spoilers for next season
Can't wait for

I liked the finale, although I pray that we're not following the stupid baby for all of next season. And I could've done without Jax and his anguished scream on the pier as the camera pull away dramatically.
