This old chestnut is so amusing. At the very worst he said it IN PRIVATE to his wife. Big fucking deal. It's called hyperbole. (I said the same thing to people back then). And he claims that he didn't even do that. He most certainly never said it in any kind of public way. So who cares? (Oh yeah, people who hate Hollywood liberals.)

I guess I didn't think of his lesser roles. I hated Beetlejuice though. I've only seen GGR once - don't remember much of it. The Departed was excellent.

I think he's looking at it wrong. Instead of looking at his entire movie career as a complete failure, he should look at the positive side: he is by far the most successful Baldwin brother.

i love the guy and his movies. he shines on 30 rock, but the departed, miami blues, malice, etc. all do it for me and i think he is great. i would hope he keeps going, but i wouldn't say i would miss him if he were gone.

When you can be in a movie with Jack Lemon and Al Pacino and Ed Harris and Alan Arkin, and have only one scene in that movie but still be as powerful a presence as those great actors -- you're doing all right. If Baldwin wants to retire, that's his business, and more power to him -- but he's 100% wrong if he thinks his career has been a failure.

Not a huge fan of his recent work but I always loved his acting when he was the leading man type in the 80s-90s. I wish he was still that guy and not the older, chubby version that only does comedy

I don't really understand how Billy, Daniel, and Alec can look so similar yet Stephen looks so different.
My guess is that he's sincere about this, but he'll end up doing a movie a year or so because while the idea of being an actor might not appeal to him, he'll still get plenty of juicy scripts that also carry with them a commitment of a week or two of work and a fat paycheck. As far as I'm concerned, that's at least semi-retirement.
